Poplar Street, Petersburg In Romans 4:12, the Apostle Paul declares that Abraham was the father, not of his physi- cal offspring alone, but also of those who "walk in the steps of that faith" which Abraham had. Have you ever noticed that God does not hold the great men of Scripture up to us be- cause of their personal virtues? Almost invari- ably their records are marred by failure and sin. But God bids us observe their faith and what their faith gained for them (See Romans 4:3, 9, 11, 12). There is a whole chapter on this subject in the Book of Hebrews. Hebrews 11 is properly called "the great faith chapter," and its heroes "heroes of faith," for it tells how Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and scores of oth- ers "obtained a good report" before God. They all faltered and failed again and again, but He- brew 11:39 declares that "these all… obtained a good report through faith." This is why Romans 4:9 -12 states that God's blessing is bestowed upon those who "walk in the steps of that faith," which Abraham exhib- ited, just as it was bestowed upon Abraham himself. This truth is driven home in Verses 3 to 5 of the same chapter: The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. Stam I am convinced there is little integrity within the apparatus of government, and if the read- er would read the ancient philosophers, they will learn those before us considered all gov- ernments evil and served a small elite of busi- ness owners. Although Pilate adjudicated Je- sus of any wrong doing, he permitted Jesus' execution for political expediency. St. Augustine, of Hippo, who lived in the 3-4th century AD, wrote that the city of God and the city of man are diametrically opposed. The city of man is corrupt, sinful, and tempo- rary, whereas, the city of God is just, righteous and eternal. The Bible reveals that the kings of the earth have always resisted God, perse- cuted His people, and ignored His statutes. Revelation and Daniel reveal God will destroy all governments and grind them into powder and command the four winds to blow it away. On March 25, 2020, our president an- nounced we must flatten the curve of COVID, or millions would die. State governors agreed and ordered that everyone except essential workers would shelter in place for about two weeks; afterwards we can emerge from lock- down in time for Easter and celebrate the hope of the Resurrection. The sooner we flatten the curve, the sooner we can get back to normal. They lied. It has become painfully obvious that governments at all levels have misman- aged the pandemic. While the big-box stores raked in billions, over 200,000 small business who were arbitrarily classified as non-essen- tial were forced to close and subsequently went out of business. The number of closures for 2021 are still being tabulated, but the expect- ed numbers look bad. The delta and omicron Covid variant are sweeping the country, causing widespread havoc and more governmental wringing of hands. More masks and more restrictions have Well I'll be if isn't time to write my Ram- blings again. It doesn't even seem like a week has passed since I shared thoughts with you. The storm named Landon sure did leave our area a mess of ice and freezing temperatures. I said a couple of weeks ago the snow lovers wouldn't be cheated this year and there was plenty of slick stuff to have fun in for awhile. It was hard for the snow plows to keep up and every time they would get an area passable it would ice over again. I think they done a good job and deserve our thanks. My neighbor came over with his four-wheel drive tractor and plowed our drive and he had trouble getting through to the ice. I shoveled some of it before he came to plow and it is try- ing to melt a bit. I started our generator last summer but it would not start when I got it out to get it ready for use. I finally mixed some gasoline with the old gas and used a little starting fluid my friend had brought over to help get it started. It finally started but thank the Lord we didn't need our generators. I started looking at whole house generators to keep from all the ado of getting ready every year or so. It sounds like it would be worth the cost just to be ready at all times. Sadly, 31 year old Rae Goldy, of Oakland City, lost her battle with cancer on Janu- ary 20, 2022. The medical and funeral expenses are large, so we are having a soup supper fundraiser in her memory to help offset the incurred ex- penses. The soup supper will be from 4-7 p.m. CST, Satur- day, February 12, at Wirth Park, in Oakland City. A silent auction of assorted items are also planned. All proceeds will go directly to the Goldy family (husband, Nick; and sons, Jax- on, Declon, and Tucker). We hope you can come and sup- port this family in need. Crossroads encourages a family atmosphere at church. We are all brothers and sis- ters in love with Jesus, and the sacrifice He provided for all mankind. We are bonded by the blood of our Savior. In honor of Valentine's Day, the scripture from I Corinthi- ans says: "Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand it's own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about in- justice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love nev- er give up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance" (I Corinthians 13:4-7). There is no greater love than the love the Father has for us. He is always calling and reaching out for us. His love is never ending. We are remembering those youth group meet Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. We hope to see you here. Michael Miller, Pastor
