The Lady Chargers took the floor in the first quarter of the game, ready to play and defeat Jasper. The game was very heated and the La- dy Chargers battled their way through it. They ended up be- ing four points down from Jas- per, who had taken the lead. In the second quarter, the Lady Chargers seemed to pick up on their scoring. Even though they were not able to hold Jasper scoreless, they were at least able to keep up with the scoring pace of the Wild- cats. By halftime, the teams had scored the same amount of points in the second quar- ter, leaving the Lady Chargers still down by four points. A fter halftime, the Lady Chargers continued into the third quarter and had a hard time in defense and scoring. They were unable to keep up with Jasper. At the end of the quarter, they had fallen anoth- er eight points behind, giving the Wildcats a 12-point lead. The fourth quarter began and the Lady Chargers came out more determined than ev- er. They were able to score 11 points this quarter with some fight and skill, by having one three-pointer, two-pointers and four free throws. Unfor- tunately, this was not enough to catch up, even though they came close a few times. The game ended with the final score of 44-33, Jasper's win. The Lady Chargers were led in scoring by sophomore Brailey Mills and junior Kah- le Young, who both scored 10 points each. Following them were seniors Mallory Hunt with nine points and Kya Sul- livan with four points. Coach Kyle McCutchan said, "The girls battled hard tonight, but we could not hit enough shots. We were not aggres- sive enough in at- tacking Jasper de- fense. We will con- tinue to work on improving on that end." JUNIOR VARSITY The Pike Central junior var- sity girls' team also played against the Lady Wildcats on Tuesday, losing by a score of 37-29. The JV Lady Chargers started off slow in their scor- ing and did build up through- out the game and quarters, but were unable to keep up with Jasper's defense and ag- gression. By halftime, the score was 18 -12, with the La- dy Chargers only six behind, but by the end of the third quarter, the score was 28 -19 and the Lady Chargers were going to have to pick up the pace to pull out a win. They did pick up their scoring pace, but by this time in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats already had a significant lead and the Lady Chargers were unable to hit that stride. The lead scorer for the ju- nior varsity game was junior Tiffany Artega, with four three-pointers for 12 points. Following her was junior Kee- na Young with eight points, sophomore Anna Whitehead with six points and Shelby Meadows with a free throw for one point.
