The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, November 17, 2021 D-3 to accommodate DST but I didn't like it at all. The peo- ple who are for this change say it is for the children who ride buses to school to have more day light in the morn- ings. But our seasons haven't caught up with normal sea- sonal changes and it was still very dusky at 7:30 a.m. the other morning and the bus- es were running so save the more day light reasoning. While I'm on a grumping adventure why in the world would six or seven counties choose to be on a different time than the rest of our state because I'm here to say I get confused easily having to do things in Evansville especial- ly if you have appointments to keep. You can mark me down as saying this is plain silly. I mowed up some leaves the other day and with the wind blowing like a hurri- cane you couldn't tell I had done a thing. Someone was bragging how they would just let the wind take care of their leaves, but the big problem with this is while your leaves are blowing away someone else's is blowing into your yard, so you don't gain much. My grandson and I went to church last Sunday morn- ing and my wife stayed home nursing a cold she must have gotten from our granddaugh- ter. The Sunday School les- son has switched over to the fallen angel or the devil and what are the things we have to watch out for as he goes over the world seeking whose life he can destroy. I for one don't like to give him room enough in my life to do damage, but we must stay vigilant to his ways. Let us each go out into the world and seek to be a bless- ing to all of God's creation. Be happy to get blessed in return. Hwy. 61 Spurgeon Pastor Cell 812-202- 8903 or church office 812-922-8215 Church service 9 a.m.; Fri- day Bible study at 1 p.m. Scripture taken from II Cor- inthians 1:4. "We can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." Sometimes God allows us to go through trying times such as an illness, loss, or crisis. He teaches us through our suf- fering to appreciate the great- est suffering that Christ went through on our behalf on the cross. In turn, when we rely on Him for comfort and strength, we're able to comfort and en- courage others in their suf- fering. Let's reflect on whom we can extend comfort to be- cause of what God has brought us through. Whom has God helped you to comfort through your own experiences of suffer- ing? What can you do to help them appreciate Christ's suf- fering on the cross through their pain? "God, help me to experi- ence Your comfort in my suf- fering and to become a source of comfort to others"—Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. SR 56 Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday worship 9 a.m.; Sun- day school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in cha- os. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righteous- ness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that passes all understanding—He is in con- trol. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Yes, we celebrate the one holiday of the year called Thanksgiving. But some- times after that day, we tend to forget all that we should be thankful for. Just ponder a mo- ment about what you should be thankful for every day. You will be surprised at all there is. So be thankful every day. Remember to pray for the sick, those in hospitals, in nursing homes and any that are downtrodden by life. May we be about the Mas- ter's business. Lift up in prayer your pres- ident, U.S. Congress, your state and local government of- ficials, as the Bible states that we might live a peaceful life. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday eve- ning worship service. Most of us this time of the year think about all our bless- ings. But what does it really mean to be blessed? In our social-media world, saying you're blessed can be a way of boasting while try- ing to sound humble. College scholarship? I'm blessed. Un- expected raise? I'm blessed. Wonderful family? I'm bless- ed. As Christians we use that term, too, of course. We pray God will bless our family. The common understanding of what it means to be bless- ed by God is that He gives us good things. "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" ( James 1:17, NIV ). "Thank You, Father, that You don't change, so I can depend on You. So much in this world changes and peo- ple change, but You never will. Teach me to trust You and depend on You more and more" —Amen.
