Hathaway, 76, of Winslow, passed away Fri- day, November 12, 2021, at 5:19 p.m. at Jasper Memorial Hospital, with his family at his bedside. He was born March 31, 1945, in Winslow, the son of Bernard "Sweeney" and Be- atrice Taylor Hathaway. He was a graduate of Winslow High School and worked for Snap-on Tool com- pany as a tool maker. He was a member of the Muren First Church of God in Winslow, and he was an avid mechan- ic, restoring lawnmowers and small engines. He specialized in riding mowers and garden- ing, and working in the yard. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marcia Sanneman Doll Hathaway; children, Roger (Candy) Pancake, of Winslow, Gary Wayne Pan- cake of Winslow, Kathy ( Jeff ) O'Hara, of Bicknell, and Mi- chelle ( Jeff ) Catt, of Vin- cennes; his grandchildren, Dustin O'Hara, Allyson Shots, Seth Shots, John Shots, Jr., Eli- ana Pancake and Isaac Pan- cake; his great-grandchildren, Kyle Hugh Shots, Lexi Shots and Ryan Shots; a sister, Al- ice Ann ( Jack) Tooley, of Oak- land City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Beatrice Hathaway; and two grandchildren, Tyler O'Hara and Kayla O'Hara. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday November 17, 2021, at Duesterberg-Fred- rick Funeral Home, with Pas- tor Clint Woosley officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time on Wednes- day at the funeral home. Thomas Harold Smith, Jr., 56, of Velpen, passed away No- vember 14, 2021, in Evansville. He was born February 17, 1965, in Indianapolis, to Thomas and Patricia (Trem- ble) Smith. He and his wife, Judy ( Volz) Smith, were married in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Judy Smith, of Velpen; daugh- ters, Erica (Logan) Padgett and Staci (Adam) Gen- try; grandchildren, Jackson Padgett, Scarlett Gentry, Elea- nor Padgett and Aubrey Gen- try; brother, Brad Smith; and sisters, Carla Mehringer and Amy Peyton. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 3 p.m. EST on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Petersburg Free Methodist Church, with Pas- tor Gary Pancake officiating. Cockerham, 78, of Jasper, passed away at 10 :24 p.m. on Wednesday, Novem- ber 10, 2021, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Harris- burg, Ill., on October 1, 1943, to Isaac and Madge (Disney) Heiple. She was a 1961 graduate of Petersburg High School. She was a homemaker, worked for the Dubois School System, and then retired from Kimball Electronics, where she had worked for 25 years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Jas- per Moose, where she enjoyed Wednesday quilting. She enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved to travel, especially to Florida and the beach. She is survived by three children, Alecia (Ronald) Phillips, of Westminster, Co- lo., Keith (Martha) Cocker- ham, of Dwight, Ill., and Brian (Annalisa) Cockerham, of Mo- hamet, Ill.; seven grandchil- dren; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Mick Heiple, of Evansville, and Gary Heiple, Petersburg. Preceding her in death are one brother, Bill Heiple; and one sister-in-law, Sheila Hei- ple. A funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Burial followed in Walnut Hill Ceme- tery in Petersburg. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Jas- per Moose conducted a ritual at 6 p.m. on Monday at the fu- neral home. JANET ELAINE SHAW Janet Elaine Shaw, 81, of Richland, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Walnut Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Evans- ville. She was born July 24, 1940 in Winslow. Her first career was nurs- ing. She spent much of her ca- reer as an occupational nurse at ALCOA in Newburgh. Fol- lowing this career, she and her husband created Misty Morn Safe Company in Rich- land, operating for over 30 years. Through the growth of the company, many cherished friendships, near and far, were made along the way. She enjoyed the rural life, took an active role in her com- munity and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was an exceptional cook, often cooking for large gatherings. Cooking for her family and friends provided much joy and usually includ- ed a piece of homemade pe- can pie, her specialty. She made many people feel wel- come with her great meals. She loved her church family very much, actively serving many years with the Owens- boro LDS Church. She is survived by her hus- band, Walter Howell Shaw, Jr.; stepchildren, Angela (Larry) Lyle and Grant H. (Marty) Shaw; grandson, Landon A. Shaw; and brother, Gordon Barnett (Carol). She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Cathryn Barnett; and broth- er, Wesley Barnett. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Midway Cemetery. GEORGE ROBERT SHEPHERD George Robert "Bob" Shep- herd, 80, of Glezen, entered rest on Nov. 10, 2021, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Evans- ville. He was born on Feb. 1, 1941, in Glezen, to George and Thel- ma ( Willis) Oldham. He was a member of U.M.W.A and a retired coal miner from Old Ben Coal 11, and very proud of his prison ministry at Wabash Correc- tional Facility. He was a mem- ber of the Glezen Revival Cen- ter, First Pentecostal Church and Living Grace Church. He is survived by his son, Steven Wayne (Keila) Shep- herd, of Winslow; daughter, Becky (Timothy) Blaize, of Petersburg; four grandchil- dren; 14 great-grandchildren; and half-sisters, Jenny Norton, of Norris City, Ill., and Nancy Herom, of Bushnell, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, An- netta Coleman in 2021; and wife, Gail Shepherd, on June 17, 2021. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Gene Bur- khart, Rev. Eddie Willis and Rev. Ron Vickers officiating. ALBERT EARL MAT TINGLY Albert Earl Mattingly, 54, of Petersburg, passed away at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Novem- ber 10, 2021, at home. He was born in Washington on September 18, 1967, to Al- bert and Kerrylynn (Hobbs) Mattingly. He was a 1985 graduate of Jasper High School. He worked as the sales man- ager for Sternberg Trucking for several years. He was then the owner of Al Mattingly's Big Time Catering and follow- ing that, an independent sales consultant. He was a member of the Pe- tersburg Moose. He enjoyed hunting, photog- raphy, politics, playing Santa for the local children, listen- ing to and telling bad jokes, history, higher math, music, cooking, reading nonfiction, and spending time with fam- ily and friends. He also had a huge heart and was always there to help others. Surviving are one son, Trev- is Mattingly, of Jasper; father, Albert Eugene Mattingly, of Petersburg; his fiancé, Susan Jose, of Petersburg; one sis- ter, Kerry (Scott) Kraynak, of Greenville, S.C.; two aunts, Linda DeJarnett, of Otwell, and Marsha (Rick) Mann, of Otwell; nieces, Sarah, Gra- cie, Kate and Caroline Kray- nak; one nephew, Matthew Kraynak; and a multitude of cousins. Preceding him in death was his mother, Kerrylynn Mat- tingly. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at St. Mary's Cath- olic Church in Ireland. Fox Foundation. Online condo- lences may be made at www. becherkluesner.com. PAUL CLETUS HOLSCHER Paul Cletus Holscher, 93, of Vincennes, went to be with the Lord November 9, 2021. He was born September 7, 1928 in Vincennes, the 10th of 12 children, to the late Henry Francis and Emma Catherine ( Wetzel) Holscher. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Vincennes. He married the love of his life, Rita Marie (Halter) Holscher on April 6, 1952, and was a de- voted husband of 67 years un- til Rita's passing on November 17, 2019. He was a lifelong farmer of grain and livestock. The beef he raised was the first certi- fied-Angus to be sold in Ja- pan by Dawson Baker Packing Co., of Ky. In the early 1970s, he developed his own folding 12-row planter, two years be- fore any equipment manufac- turers designed one. In the winter months after harvest, he enjoyed operating "Pappy," his D-7 caterpillar bulldozer. He was also a renowned story teller about his life experienc- es and shenanigans, and never left out any details. He will be deeply missed by many. He is survived by his chil- dren, Wayne (Tammie) Holscher, Deborah (Glenn) Hagan, Brenda (Doug) Hor- rall, Pat (Lori) Holscher, Paula (Steve) Hill, Doug (Amy) Holscher and Gary Holscher; grandchildren, Nicholas Holscher, Jeanma - rie Hoke, Amanda Stevens, Joshua Stevens, Jacob Hor- rall, Danette Culver, Casey Farrell Holscher, Sonya Hol- loway, Adam Holscher, Alicia Hill, Lanea Holscher, Jaxson Holscher, Kaiden Holscher, Garrett Holscher and Natalee Holscher; 15 great-grand- children; siblings, Charles "Short" Holscher and Mary (Francis) Halter; close family friend, Dietrich Lane; and ma- ny nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Rita Holscher; son, Duane Holscher; broth- ers, William, Walter, Myrle, Maurice and Henry "Bub" Holscher; sisters, Ruth Pri- mus, Elizabeth "Betty" Wil- liams, Loretta Halter and Em- ma Purcell. SHARON LOUISE WINEINGER Sharon Louise Wineinger, 77, of Freedom, passed away November 9, 2021, at her res- idence. She was born September 18, 1944, in Petersburg, to Noral and Clara Wanna Lee (Hale) Harrison. She married her husband of 59 years, Phil Wineinger, on September 22, 1962. She is survived by her hus- band, Phil Wineinger; son, Roy (Carleen) Wineinger; one granddaughter; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Barba- ra Stroud and Clara Potts; and one brother. Services were at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, with Pastors Todd Mosby and Clark Gray officiating. Burial followed at Otwell Cemetery. WILLIAM MARVIN MCCONNELL William Marvin McConnell, 94, of Evansville, entered rest on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 6, 1927, in Gibson County, to Thomas and Vashti (O'Neal) McCon- nell. He served in the United States Army during W WII and was honored to take part in the Honor Flight in April 2016 to Washington, D.C. He worked at Whirlpool Corporation in Evansville and Lamb-Basham Memori- al Chapel in Oakland City for several years. He was a 70 -year member of Oakland City Masonic Lodge #467. He was very proud to be a lay speaker in the Unit- ed Methodist Church for sev- eral years and was a mem- ber of Northeast Park Baptist Church in Evansville. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ima June (Kin- naman) McConnell; children, Tom (Dolores) "Dee" McCon- nell of, Fairview Heights, Ill., and Jane Ann (Bob) Gansman, of Evansville; sister, Wanda Lee Evitts, of Dittmer, Mo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 :30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at Lamb-Basham Me- morial Chapel, with Rev. Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Cem- etery. Visitation will be from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the chapel.
