The Lady Chargers got to the line for six points in the final two minutes and Brailey Mills net- ted a three-point play at 1:10 to cut the Lady Pioneer lead to six, but Charger scoring came to a halt. The Lady Pio- neers wrapped it up with a free throw and then a basket at 32 seconds remaining. Boonville claimed a 52-43 Pocket Athlet- ic Conference win by holding on to their first half 10 -point edge. Mallory Hunt got to the hoop for all six points the girls had in the 13-6 first quarter, then she and Brailey Mills picked up the tempo with 11 combined markers in the sec- ond, but Boonville's Alaysha Brandenberger scored a trio of baskets and a three point- er to put the Pioneers on top 27-17 at the half. Brandenberg- er topped 1,500 career points in that first half and finished equaling Brailey's 20 -point game high. The Lady Chargers out- scored Boonville 14 to 13 in the third, with Mills net- ting eight points. Hunt was good for a basket and two free throws, and Kya Leighty made her first basket. Mills scored her second three point- er in the fourth and the team matched Boonville's dozen fourth-quarter markers, with scoring from Mills, Hunt, Kya Leighty and Kya Sullivan. Mills finished tied with Brandenberger with a game- high 20 points. Hunt pulled down 16, including six of 10 from the line. Mills added Charger seventh and eighth grades split against North Posey By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central seventh and eighth grade boys' basket- ball teams played North Posey on Thursday, November 11 at Pike Central. The seventh grade boys' team fought hard but were out gunned if anything by the shear number of players the North Posey team had on their roster. North Posey started off with boom and scored 17 points to the Chargers' zero by the end of the first quar- ter. In the second quarter, the Chargers seemed to pick up their game, with Carson Wis- caver scoring three two-point- ers and Tyler Collins scoring one. However, this was not enough to stop North Posey, who one upped their score, making nine points for the quarter. In the second half of the game, there was much of the same, with the Chargers scor- ing eight points total for the half to North Posey's 23 point tally. The seventh grade boys' lost to North Posey by a score of 48 -16. Coach Damon Schnarr said, "I give North Posey credit, they shot the ball about as well as a seventh grade team can shoot it. I was proud of our effort as we continued to battle till the end. Some posi- tives were we battled hard on the glass, and Carson Wiscav- er was very good at penetrat- ing and getting to the basket. Their full court pressure and zone defense sped us up a lit- tle bit, but we'll get better at handling that and cleaning up some things execution wise as the season progresses."
