Poplar Street, Petersburg Once again it is time for me to ramble and scramble some thoughts for this week's col- umn. It has been a rather uneventful week for my family. We all need a few weeks of less dra- ma filled weeks. I do thank my Lord for the good week although a little busy at times. Last Sunday we were really tired and sore from our booster shots and due to all the rest from laying around we both had a burst of en- ergy. So we did several projects around the house. I planted some more grass while my wife washed more windows and the limestone ledge on the brick portion of our home. We fi- nally started using an old can of comet cleans- er sopped up to make a paste. We let that stand for awhile and then sanded the discolored por- tion. It looks lots cleaner but it does take a long time to get anything done. I hauled six pickup loads of firewood to our friend and I finally ran out of energy around five o'clock. The next day I raked and cleaned the area where the wood had been laying. A fter getting as level as possible we planted more grass on this area. If all the grass we have planted grows we should have a clean and green yard. I have seen more and more comments on social media and columns in the newspapers how more and more people are becoming fed up with all the politics taking place by our elected officials. It is time to take off the box- ing gloves and clear the extreme sports ring and do their job. Every bill and issue we hear about always has tons of riders placed on them. If they get passed there is so much fat added the bill becomes way too expensive and has hardly anything to do with their original in- "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse…but continue thou" (II Tim.3:13,14). These were among the last words of the great Apostle Paul, written in view of his ap- proaching martyrdom, to Timothy, his beloved son in the faith. Circumstances, outwardly, were anything but encouraging. It seemed that the last days of the dispensation of grace were indeed at hand. The apostle had borne many "persecutions" and "afflictions" and now "suffered trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds". There were those who, like Jannes and Jambres, had "re- sisted the truth" ( Verse 8). "Alexander the cop- persmith" had done him "much evil" and had "greatly withstood his words" (4:14,15). "Evil men and seducers" had risen on every hand and were to "wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived" (IITim.3:13). There was even defection among his own brethren in the faith, so that now, from his Ro- man prison, he had to report: "All they which are in Asia have turned away from me…Demas hath forsaken me…only Luke is with me" (II- Tim.1:15; 4:10,11). Over the years I have read hundreds of good books which have inspired me to love God and my friends and even those who might be called enemies. But the Bible stands alone from all oth- er books I have read. I read it every day and be- lieve it to be the inspired and authoritative Word of God. It helps me understand God, His creation and plan for my life. It shapes my faith, guides my life and gives me a lens in which to view and understand the world around me. The Bible stands alone in its origin. It was writ- ten over a period of 1,500 years by 40 different au- thors from all walks of life including kings, phi- losophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, farm- ers, physicians, and scholars. It was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Arabic and Greek. It was written in Asia, A frica, and Europe. The Bible reveals the purpose and plan God has for every person. Liberal media and highly educat- ed people deny it because of their ego and a desire to follow a life of inner selfishness. They vainly imagine that they are lit- tle gods and wish to con- trol the minds of others. They have written thou- sands of books which only mock the emptiness of their own search. They have trouble under- standing that we live in a world of both good and evil. The Bible teaches us how to live the good The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. October is Pastor Appreci- ation Month. Don't forget to show your appreciation to your Pastor. The hours they put in, always praying for us, just a phone call away and meeting our needs can not always be easy. They need our prayers each and every day. We certainly have a pastor we can always count on and we love and appreciate Pas- tor Ralph. "They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isaiah 40 :31). Waiting can be incredibly difficult. Even while waiting on the Lord for an answer, we get very impatient. His prom- ise is the same if we wait a week or 20 years, if we per- severe, we become stronger. May we always be steadfast and patient in our waiting. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to worship with us. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Reporter AYRSHIRE VALLEY G.B. CHURCH 1947 E. Co. Rd. 375 S. Saints who remain faithful to the truth of God have an open door before them. My soul, thou hast resolved to live and die by that which the Lord has revealed in His Word, and therefore before thee stands this open door. I will enter in by the open door of communion with God. Who shall say me nay? Jesus has removed my sin and given me His righteousness; there- fore I may freely enter. Lord, I do so by Thy grace. I have also before me an open door into the mysteries of the Word. I may enter into the deep things of God. Elec- tion, union to Christ, the Sec- ond advent - all these are be- fore me, and I may enjoy them. No promise and no doctrine are now locked up against me. An open door of access is be- fore me in private and an open door of usefulness in public. God will hear me; God will use me. A door is opened for my onward march to the church above, and for my daily fellow- ship with saints below. Some may try to shut me up or shut me out, but all in vain. Soon shall I see an open door into heaven: the pearl gate will be my way of entrance, and then I shall go in unto my Lord and King and be with God eternal- ly shut in.
