The Tell City Marksmen were ranked 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the PAC, making them fourth in the conference. Pike Central has not de- feated Tell City since the Septem- ber 2018 season, and even then, on- ly by one point. This game, being the Homecoming game for Tell City, packed the seats of Pike Central's opponent, making the game even more important to them. So the Chargers had their work cut out, but could fight and win with deter- mination and teamwork. In the first quarter of the game, the Marksmen made their first touchdown of the game with 11:48 on the clock, followed by a good kick. The Chargers pulled together, but were unable to stop the Marks- men, who followed this score up with another. In the number one singles, fresh- man Eli Arnold defeated Max Ra- sche, of Southridge, 6 -3, 4-6, 6 -4. Charger freshman Nate Carter was defeated by the Raiders' Mick Ue- belhor 0 -6, 1-6 in the number two singles. Charger freshmen Parker Knust and Jayden Bolin lost out to Cory Abell and Kyan Thyen, of the Raid- ers, 1-6, 3-6 in the number one dou- bles. The Chargers ended up los- ing the number three singles and the number two doubles due to for- feit, because of not having enough players. Head Coach Brent Beck said, "Although we fell short against Southridge in sectional play, it was nice to have Eli win his match, so his season will continue in the sin- gles sectional. As a team, we know this is just the beginning for us. We have some skilled kids with this group, and we know that we are only going to keep getting bet- ter. We're not going away anytime soon." Weisman and Teague make First Team All-PAC By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central co-ed cross country team went to the PAC Championship at Gibson Southern on Satur- day, October 2. The Lady Chargers placed second in the PAC, with a top five average time of 21:10 and 83 points, losing out on first to Princeton Community, who had a top five average time of 20 :03 and 31 points. Other teams that placed in the girls' PAC Cham- pionships were: 3) Forest Park with a top five aver- age time of 21:30 and 105 points, 6) Boonville with a top five average time of 22:18 and 141 points, 6) Her- itage Hills with a top five average time of 22:38 and 149 points, 7) Tell City with a top five average time of 22:28 and 149 points, 8) Southridge with a top five av- erage time of 24:30 and 153 points, 9) South Spencer with a top five average time of 25:09 and 201 points, 10) Mount Vernon with a top five average time of 29:44 and 214 points. Pike Central freshman Xavery Weisman placed fourth at the PAC with a time of 18:56, a personal best for her by breaking 19:00, getting her the First Team All-PAC. Also making First Team All-PAC for the sec- ond year in a row was senior Quinlan Teague, placing 13th with a time of 21:03. Charger sophomore Anna Whitehead made Second Team All-PAC, placing 17th with a time of 21:38. Along with her, Kennedy Willis also made Second Team All-PAC, placing 28th with a time of 22:01. The other placers on the team were: Kay- lyn Warner placed 31st with a time of 22:14 and Mor- gan Anders placed 59th with a time of 25:32. Head Coach Randy Graham said, "We are very proud of the girls earning a second place team finish in the PAC meet. This was a tough field this year with a lot of great runners." "We are very happy to see Xavery and Quinlan earn First Team All-Conference honors and with Anna and Kennedy earning Second Team honors. Kaylyn and Morgan also had strong races today and have been battling nagging little pains and injuries. It took ev- ery one of them for us to find the team success that we earned today and we couldn't be prouder for them." "This was a tough race. The course was wet, muddy and extremely flat. Many of our kids prefer to have a couple of hills on the course. Now it's time to prepare for the sectional." Pike Central's boys' cross country placed sixth, with a top five average time of 19:41 and 184 points. Penalty kicks end boys' soccer season at Sectional By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central Chargers' boys' soccer team played Prince- ton in the Sectional at Washington on Monday, October 4. The Chargers battled through- out the whole game, but ended up losing to Princeton in penalty kicks. According to Head Coach Jacob Western, the team had a lot of chances, but just could not put any away. The game was locked at 0 -0 all the way through into extra time, until Charger junior Isaac Burdette scored the team's first goal of the night. Princeton answered that score off a free kick a little while later, making the score 1-1. The Chargers' fate was then in the hands of penalty kicks. Pike Central junior Joey Ridao, senior Xavier Shoultz and senior Devin Carlisle all made the net with their kicks. However, Princeton made one more than the Chargers, leav- GIRLS' XC TAKES SECOND AT PAC Quinlan Teague, Lady Charger senior, watches her footing as she comes out of wa- ter on the wet course during the Pike Cen- tral High School girls' cross country PAC at Gibson Southern on Saturday, October 2.
