The varsity ended up los- ing by scores of 23-25, 16 - 25, 15 -25. According to Head Coach Stephanie Shedd, it was a rough night with the girls playing well in the first set, but falling apart in the second and third sets. Charger senior Jaize Mills had 12 digs and two aces for the game, senior Erika Vinnedge ended with two kills and one block, while senior Alaina McClellan fin- ished with three digs. The team had a total of 46 digs and five aces for the sets. "We struggled serving and passing. We dug up some hard hits and slowed the ball down at the net," commented Coach Shedd. The Lady Chargers will play their next game at Her- itage Hills on Thursday, Oc- tober 7 at 7:45 p.m. Senior recognition night for the 2022 volleyball seniors was Monday, October 4 at Pike Central. Photo by Chris Clement PC volleyball C Team win Tecumseh Tournament The Pike Central girls vol- leyball c team won the Te- cumseh C Team/Freshman tournament, with wins over Gibson Southern, Evansville North and Barr Reeve. Against Gibson Southern, the Chargers took the first set 25 -12. Freshman Karly Mor- son led the way with a long run serving the ball in the first set. The Lady Chargers ended up losing in the second set 25 -14, but turning their fait around by wining in the final set, by a score of 15 -12. During the match, Morson had six aces, three kills and four digs. Sophomore Ella Ad- ams had one ace, two kills and four digs. Charger sophomore Addy Russell had one ace, two kills and five digs. Freshman Myra Hensler had three kills, five digs and one assist. La- dy Charger freshman Brylee Walker also had a good run serving in the match and tal- lied five digs and one assist. While sophomore Jaidyn Go- gel tallied 14 assists and fresh- man Emma Hunt had an ace. Against Evansville North, the Lady Chargers lost the first set 25 -6, but pulled to- gether and won the second set 25 -12, then finished of Evans- ville North by winning the third set 15 -12. Coach Russell said, "We could not get into rhythm in that first set and regrouped to turn the match around." In the second set, Addy Rus- sell started the team off by get- ting us to a 9 -0 lead and the La- dy Chargers did not look back after that run. Picking up in the third set the Chargers got two good serving runs from Gogel and Morson which led them to the win. During this set of match- es Russell led the way against North with three aces, three kills and six digs. Hunt had one ace, two kills and one block. Ella Adams had one kill, one block, six digs and one assist. Hensler tallied one block and one dig. Walk- er had one ace and three digs. Morson had one ace and four digs. Gogel had one kill, one dig and four assists. In the last matches against Barr Reeve, chargers lost the first set 25 -21, second set 25 - 22, thanks to another long serving run from Russell to get us to 10 -0 to start the set. Then the Lady Chargers C Team sealed the win by de- feating Barr Reeve in the third set 15 -7. Lady Charger, Russell led the way with seven aces, one kill and six digs. Hensler had four aces, two kills, two digs and one assist. Morson had two aces, one kill, two digs and two assists. Walker had one kill and two digs. Hunt had one ace, one kill and two digs. Gogel had four digs and eight assists and Adams had six kills. The Lady Charger vol- leyball next game for the C Team will be Tuesday at Gib- son Southern. The Pike Central volleyball C team played at the Tecumseh tournament on Saturday, October 2, defeating Evansville North, Barr Reeve and Gibson Southern. Submitted photo Sixth grade volleyball defeats Haubstadt By Matthew Haycraft On Wednesday, Septem- ber 29, the Pike Central sixth grade volleyball team played George Rogers Clark on their home court. The A Team lost 21-25, 23- 25. Chloe Howard lead the team in aces with a total of five, while Sophie O'Neal had two, and Braelyn Barnett and Channing Sorgius both had one. PCMS B Team also lost against Clark that night in two sets 19 -25, 17-25. Hope Readle lead the team in ac- es with a total of two for the match, while Faye Barger and Claire Bolin followed her with one ace each. The Pike Central sixth grade volleyball team played Haubstadt on Thursday, Sep- tember 30 on their home court. A Team lost in the second set, but pulled together and captured the win in the third set, defeating Haubstadt 25 - 14, 20 -25, 15 -4. Head Coach Abby Aldridge said, "The girls have done a great job working together on the court and their communi- cation is continually improv- ing. It's great to see how much they have progressed since the beginning of the season." The PCMS sixth grade volleyball team will play two more games before the sea- son ends next week. The first game will be Wednesday, Oc- tober 6 at Clark and the next will be Monday, October 11 at North Knox.
