Pastor Kathy Henderson, Reporter ly think about those two lit- tle words. We could use them in our everyday lives when coming in contact with oth- ers and even with thoughts to ourselves. We all have strug- gles, but just being kind and focusing on positive uplifting thoughts to dwell in kindness and light can make your day a better day. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compas- sion and the God of all com- fort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can com- fort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves re- ceive from God" (I Corinthi- ans 1:3-4). Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Sunday morning worship at 10 :30 a.m. Everyone is wel- come to come share God's good news with our commu- nity of faith. The need for Jesus My wife, Donna, and I came to Petersburg and Pike Coun- ty many years ago, enjoying six years here and making life- long friends. Years later, we have re- turned to this community. Lots of things have changed. Many friends and acquain- tances have passed on. Busi- nesses are no longer here. It's almost impossible to drive the streets of Petersburg without reminiscing. From one end of Main Street to the other, most businesses are gone. Banks have changed, local pharma- cies are gone; no more Frost Top, jewelry stores, Handy Hardware or Index Notion. In part, we all know that the tor- nado that struck more than thirty years ago changed Pe- tersburg's landscape forever. Truthfully, all communi- ties and businesses change. Restaurants come and go. Landscape changes. Like life, nothing remains static. Even when I look in the mir- ror, I have to admit dramatic change. Many ask why we have cho- sen to return to Pike Coun- ty. The answer is easy. We loved then and we love now the people who live here. We did not return in an effort to re-live previous experiences. We didn't return to re-unite friendships. And like every other community in the inter- vening years, there are people here who need Jesus. First Christian Church VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your com- mands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees. Though the ar- rogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart. Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I de- light in your law. It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees" (Psalms 119:65 -71, NIV ). God bless you and keep you. We welcome you to all ser- vices. Come and worship Je- sus with us. He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey. Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip. 9 -Andrew. He was crucified on a X-shaped cross in Patras, Greece. A fter being whipped severely by seven soldiers, they tied his body to a cross with cords to prolong his ag- ony. His followers reported that when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words, "I have long de- sired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been con- secrated by the body of Christ hanging on it." He continued to preach to his tormentors for two days until he expired. 10 -Thomas. He was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the Subcontinent. 11-Jude. He was killed with arrows when he refused to de- ny his faith in Christ. 12-Matthias. The apostle chose to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot. He was stoned, then beheaded. Some people consider Paul as one of the 12 apostles that followed Jesus while he was here on this earth. (13th). This is not true, which I will try to explain from what the book says, next week.
