Man injured in I-69 crash A Lafayette man was injured Monday at about noon when he crashed through a guard rail on I-69. Later, the car caught fire. Ryan Cun, 30, of Lafayette, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala north on I-69 when he lost control, ran off the left side of the road into the median, overcorrect- ed and then skidded back across the roadway, hitting a guardrail and overturning several times, according to Pike County Deputy Sheriff Buck Seger. His car came to rest in a field and caught fire. Cun was able to get out of the vehicle, but suffered leg and foot injuries. Since 1902, the resilience of young people has brought about the most significant inno- vations in agriculture and technology. This theme celebrates the interests and knowledge sparked from the wide variety of 4-H projects and activities that youth choose to explore, says Alex Mahrenholz, 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator with Pike County Purdue Extension. "Indiana 4-H creates an environment for positive youth development, and Pike Coun- ty 4-Her's exemplify the resilience and dili- gence of the 'Find Your Spark' theme," said Mahrenholz. "The activities and projects that Pike County 4-H Youth have displayed during these unusual times are nothing short of in- credible." National 4-H Week is celebrated across Indiana in many ways. Many clubs utilize this time to kick off the new 4-H program- ming year with club meetings, service learn- ing projects, or fun family activities. "As you drive around our community, you may notice businesses and homes who have displayed a 'Proud Supporter of 4-H' sign in a window. We want to recognize and thank all of our supporters, volunteers, and families for their dedication to our Pike County 4-H program. If you would like to display one, stop by the Purdue Extension Pike County Office in the Courthouse," said Brooke Goble, 4-H Youth Development Educator with Pike County Pur- due Extension. The Extension Office and Pike County 4- H Council also wanted to celebrate Nation- al 4-H Week with our educators for all that they do for our county's youth. Popcorn re- freshments from Pop Around the Clock in Vincennes were delivered this morning to each of the county's schools for the educa- tors to enjoy. "In 4-H, we believe every child should have an equal opportunity to succeed," said Jenni- fer Sirangelo, president and CEO of the Na- tional 4-H Council. "We believe every child should have the skills they need to make a difference in the world." Indiana 4-H is comprised of over 300,000 youth members. Making a real difference in their community, country, and world is not on- ly an ideal of the 4-H Pledge, but an import- ant goal behind many activities and projects Pike County 4-H hosts. For questions about the 4-H program or enrollment of youth and/ or adult volunteers, contact the Extension Of- fice at 801 E. Main Street, Petersburg, 812- 354-6838 or email amahrenh@purdue.edu. Purdue Extension—Pike County news National 4-H week celebrated Traffic stop results in several charges By James Capozella A traffic stop by Winslow Deputy Marshal James T. Har- rington on September 28 re- sulted in charges of posses- sion of a legend drug (level 6 felony), obstruction of justice (level 6 felony), maintaining a common nuisance, posses- sion of paraphernalia and pos- session of marijuana for James David Clark, 68, of 10503 S. SR 61, Oakland City. Deputy Marshal Har- rington stopped Clark at 7:58 p.m. on Walnut St. in Winslow when Clark failed to signal a turn. K9 Deny alerted on the driver's side rear door twice, indicating the presence of drugs. While waiting out- side his SUV, Clark admitted to dropping a marijuana ciga- rette on the ground prior to a search of his vehicle. Harrington recovered that joint and found Ziploc bags, metal and glass smok- ing pipes, marijuana, digi- tal scales, a grinder and four Sildenafil Citrate pills during a search of Clark's vehicle, ac- cording to the report.
