Creek CHRISTMAS LAKE GOLF COURSE 1 Clubhouse Drive, Santa Claus 1-877-962-7465 • 812-544-2255 www.christmaslake.com Christmas Lake Golf Course was one of the first championship golf courses in southern Indiana, the idea of visionar y Bill Koch. It was designed and built by national known architect Edmund Ault. Nearly 50 years later, Christmas Lake Golf Course is still taking golfers to their limits. One of their yearly events includes the Nightmare before Christmas tournament, which features the hardest pin and tee placements in early December. Rated by Golf Digest as one of the top 75 public golf courses in the countr y, Christ- mas Lake perennially provides a cham- pionship challenge with great conditions and ser vice. There are five sets of tees ranging from the tips at a gaudy 7,275 yards. It trickles down from there to the blue tees at 6,745, white at 6,243, green at 4,758 and red at 5,074. The slopes run from 136 for the gold, 130 for blue, 126 for white and 121 for both the green and women's red tees. The course starts off with a down hill 480 yard par four that is the number five handicap. The second hole is the course's toughest hole, a dog leg left 465 from the tips and 428 from the blue. Both require a long and accurate tee shot to avoid rough on the left and water on the right. The fair way and green have water all down the right side. The front nine is fairly flat, but the back nine plays up and down through the hills of Spencer County. The final hole is a par 3 with a water carr y to the green from distances of 206 from the tips in 25 yard increments for the short tees. They have a full range of equipment, accessories and clothing in the pro-shop, as well as a grill in the clubhouse, capable of holding large events. PRINCETON COUNTRY CLUB 2560 N. Old US 41, Princeton 812-385-5669 Whether your thing is disc golf or tradi- tional golf or you need a place to banquet facility to host an event the Princeton Countr y Club has you covered. They have an old style nine hole golf course built in 1922 and a new world class 18-hole disc golf course along with a banquet and sunroom available for rental. The nine-hole golf course stretches to 2,581 yards for the men and 2,199 for the women over a beautiful setting on rolling hills with Bermuda grass. The course features sloped greens and several blind shots over the hills that will use ever y club in the bag. Par 3s for the men range from 122 yards to 187 yards. The course is open to the public and has a driving range to tune up your game or just get warmed up before a round. They also have a Thursday night scram- ble and a Friday morning men's scramble. The disc golf course is world class worthy of hosting the 2022 Professional Disc Golf Association Worlds Amateur Championship. It is open to the public and has cart rentals available. Their banquet facilities are just right for weddings and receptions, showers, reunions, dances or parties. PRIDES CREEK GOLF COURSE 1005 E. County Road 400 N., Petersburg 812-354-3059 www.pridescreekgolf.com Prides Creek Golf Course is a pic- turesque setting in Prides Creek Park, played around the 90-acre Prides Creek Lake. It was built in 1992 and puts a bonus on precision. Most holes are tree lined, amid the roll- ing hills along the sides of Prides Creek Lake. Five of the holes have water and two of the holes have water carries. The nine-hole course has five sets of tees that play from 2,368 to 2,822 for nine holes or 4,883 and 5,854 for 18 holes, with slopes of 114 for the men and 112 for the women. The two par fives are short enough for the longest hitters to reach in two, but remain a challenge. Hole two is a downhill 508-yard hole from the tips, with a large creek in front of the green, preventing any run-up shots. The par five ninth hole is an uphill 495-yard hole with an elevated green. The par three fifth hole is the course's signature hole, playing 195 from the tips and 145 from the for ward men's tees. Wa- ter surrounding the hole on three sides, with a 30 foot falloff to the right, a bunker on the front left, and a grass bunker on the front right, make the hole a brute from tips. The for ward tees still require a solid short iron. The women's tees play from 115 to 130. Prides Creek's Bermuda fair ways will provide a great lie to play from all summer long. The recently remodeled clubhouse is a beautiful setting for your party, event or reception. OAKLAND CITY COUNTRY CLUB 1593 South West St., Oakland City 812-749-3923 Oakland City Countr y Club is open to the public for daily play. The par 35, nine- hole course was built in 1947 and plays a variety length of holes. It slaps you in the face on the first tee with a long and narrow tee shot for the par five, 500-yard hole. Then, it switches gears to a short par three on hole two that plays from 112 to 147 downhill, but often is a stressful par. The 395-yard par four, fourth hole requires a driver off the tee. Oakland City's small, firm and sloped greens require careful consideration for a low score. The sixth hole is a 145 to 169 all-carr y par three over water to a tiered green with multiple tees, providing various angles and distances. When it plays into the wind, it can be a round breaker. For men, the course plays 5,545 for par 35 for a 105 slope, while the women play 5,249 par 74. The women start the course with a rare par six, 500-yard hole. The clubhouse has a bar and grill for all your snack and meal needs before, during or after your round.
