According to organizer Vanessa Riggs, the festival will have a new ride company this year, but most of the plans are to bring back some of the top events from years past. Thursday, July 29 will be the Lifetime Achievement Award, followed by the Wa- termelon Queen scholarship pageant. Friday, July 30 will be the Little Miss Pageant. Saturday morning will kick off with the Watermelon Fest Parade at 10:30 a.m., then continue through the afternoon with Owensville's Got Talent and The Not So Newlywed Game. For those who don't know, the Not So Newlywed Game pits longtime couples against one another, with the prize being a night out, and the couples compete to guess what their spouses will say to hilarious and sometimes embarrassing questions. In 2019, questions included zingers like "What would your spouse say he noticed about you first?" and "Which relative of yours does your spouse like least?" "That was such a big hit for us," said Riggs. The annual Poker and ATV run will also continue through the Owensville back- roads on Saturday. Gear heads will also be glad to know the annual car show will return. For more information, search Ow- ensville Watermelon Fest on Facebook. Times of many events are to be deter- mined. ZOAR MOSQUITO FEST Stationary parade and classic fun Aug. 6 – Aug. 7 The Zoar Mosquito Fest is set for the first weekend in August, as it has been for the last six decades, except for last year. COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 version of the Zoar Mosquito Fest. But plans are for it to be back on August 6 and 7 with loads of old-fash- ioned summer fun. They will have opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday, August 6, with musical entertainment by a countr y music group. The wiffle- ball tourney will start on Friday night and the food stands, featuring fried and BBQ chicken dinners, will open at 4 p.m. They will have numerous flavors of homemade ice cream, homemade pies, lemonade and elephant toes. Saturday will start off early with breakfast and a wiffleball tourney. It will be day packed with activities, ranging from quilt, produce and flow- ers shows throughout the day to the stationar y parade, which will line up at 1 p.m. Spectators will do the walking instead of the parade units, which, as the names says, will stay stationar y. They will have three-legged and sack races, as well as balloon and egg tosses, and other games for kids and adults. They will finish off with a Gospel Sing on Saturday evening. SWEET CORN FESTIVAL is the sweetest part of summer Aug. 12 – Aug. 15 The Oakland City Sweet Corn Festival will provide guests with three days of food and carnival activities.
