"I thought our game against Southridge was probably our best game of the year," confided Charger Coach Jacob Western in a post-game interview, "We played head-to-head with one of the best high school baseball teams in south- ern Indiana, and we actually led them for most of the game. "We put pressure on them each inning—I was really proud of the way we played. "We scored three runs in the first inning when we loaded the bases with Isaac Burdette (sophomore), Peyton Howald (sophomore), and Kendric Sorgius (sophomore), who all scored on a bases-clearing double by sopho- more Brody Rice. "Alex Clark ( junior) and Brody Rice did a great job on the mound—they kept Southridge off-balance throughout the game. "Our defense was really good for us also, as we committed only one error in the game." Burdette and Sorgius each had two hits for the Chargers, junior Harley May, Howald, Bro- dy Rice, Nolan Rice and Clark all hit one hit in the contest. May, sophomore Jackson Stuckey and soph- omore Jagar Dent all worked the Southridge pitching for a walk. "I know we lost the game, but we really played well against a very good team," fin- ished Western. Against Wood Memorial, Sorgius pitched the first four innings of the game, and the lanky sophomore hurler gave up two runs, while striking out nine Trojan batters. He walked just one. Brody Rice came in to pitch the final three innings of the contest, and he struck out four Trojans. Like Sorgius, Rice walked just one Trojan. "We had two big innings in our outing with Wood," said Western after the game, "we scored four runs in the first inning, and then we put five more runs across in the sixth in- ning to account for our nine runs in the win.
