Girls' Tennis Good Luck at Sectionals Young and Teague score for Lady Chargers Track and Field Lauren Young and Quinlan Teague were scorers for the Pike Central La- dy Chargers track and field team at the Princeton-hosted Pocket Athletic Conference Championships this past Tuesday. Heritage Hills won both team championships with 95 points in the boys' meet and 109.5 points in the girls', where Gibson Southern was second with 104 points. Young ran a 52.34 in the 300 meter hurdles to take fifth place for the La- dy Chargers and Morgan Anderson placed eighth in 54.64. Young added a ninth place in the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.24 and Anderson was 11th in 18.82. Quinlan Teague finished in sixth place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:14.95. Kennedy Willis placed 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:49.15. Jenna Meyer ran a 15.04 time in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash, placing 18th, with teammate Ruby Sallee 24th in 16.56. Both Teague and Willis had no time in the 1600 meter run. The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Morgan Anderson, Jenna Meyer, Aubrey Dimmit and Amber Sheets, ran a 58.61 to 11th place, about three seconds out of a top five finish. Mey- er clocked 32.24 in the 200 meter dash for 18th place in the prelims and Ruby Sallee was 23rd in 35.30. Patoka Lake hosts kayak trip June 12 Patoka Lake is hosting a kayak tour with the interpretive natural- ist on Saturday, June 12 at 9 a.m. at the Little Patoka Boat Ramp. A caravan will leave from the Patoka Lake office at 7:45 a.m. to caravan to the ramp. The 5 -mile tour will feature a rock quarry and waterfall. Pad- dlers will have a chance to see wild- life such as beavers and bald ea- gles. Participants should bring life jackets, preferred snacks, refresh- ments, and sunscreen. The tour is not suitable for beginner kayakers or children under 12. Non-motorized boat launch per- mits are required and will be sold at the event for $5 or can be purchased at the Patoka Lake office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. Dillard Road, Birdseye, IN 47513. back of Golfers place 5th in PAC Championships By Andy Heuring Pike Central's young golf team faced a beast on Saturday at the Pocket Athletic Conference Cham- pionships. For the first time, the 13-team meet was hosted at Sultan's Run in Jasper. Only one player out of the 65 players from 13 teams broke 80, as Dominic DePass, of Wash- ington, shot a 73. The next lowest was Ryan Islam, of Gibson South- ern, with an 81. Washington won the team event with a 337. Pike Central placed 12th with a 439. The course played about 6,400 yards, which is 800 longer than Prides Creek. Individual scores for the Char- gers were: Hunter Traylor 103, Ty- ler Craig 110, Nathan Snyder 111, Arri McDonald 115 and Cobey McKinney 119. "I think we honestly just wore down. The kids were really drag- ging towards the end of the round. We wanted to finish higher, but it gives us something to shoot for. The course was a bear to walk and was very challenging, with none of the boys other than Hunter ever step- ping foot on it before the match. I was proud of them for gritting it out," said Titan Head Coach Jar- rod Gideon. Traylor is a senior and all the oth- er players in the line-up are fresh- men.
