Religious Viewpoint By Dr. Clyde Dupin See MINUTES on 10 The power of the gospel of grace Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam "…the gospel… is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth" (Col. 1:5,6). How wonderful to see the gospel of the grace of God do its work! Paul had never even seen the Colossians. He had only sent missionaries to them from Ephesus with the good news of the grace of God, but this had produced amaz- ing results. Wherever the gospel of the grace of God is preached in its purity it produces results. No one hearing that message can go away the same. Either he will consider it utter fool- ishness and be hardened by it, or he will see When good people are silent and do noth- ing, bad things always happen. We have read and seen on T V about one High School in Col- orado. The students were forced to listen to a lecture encouraging them to use drugs, have sex and try homosexuality. This is a trage- dy beyond description. The Superintendent of Schools, Principal and many teachers ap- proved this attack on good behavior and en- couraged the most despicable of sins. In our efforts to be politically correct and do whatever feels good at the time, we are de- stroying a generation of young people. Our educators were once people of integrity who cared deeply about the well being of our chil- dren. Today many at high levels of academia are agnostics, politically correct and liberal in politics, religion, and family values. When evil prevails in our schools, bad things happen. Last year, in one large city school sys- tem, 28 students were killed by other students. Last year 80,000 peo- ple were killed in Amer- ica because we have lost our faith in God and love for our fellow man. I encourage parents to speak up and fight the System when it seeks to destroy and mislead your children. Pastors can be a strong force when they speak the truth and support Godly living. Many great voices for moral truth have been silenced through death or age. I think of men like Jerry Falwell, Pope John Paul, Billy Graham, Bill Bright and Adrian Rogers. Some- one needs to fill this vacancy and help save a Nation that is in danger. With moral decay within and terrorism without we face great danger as a Nation. I have no cute greetings this week but I do have a how you doing? The last time we vacationed at Myrtle Beach we shared a condo with our friends and we had excellent access to the beach. One afternoon a fellow condo renter was sitting on his deck and hollered out, "How you doing? " "I said just fine Pennsylvania." He asked, "How did you know? I told him how most people from Pennsylva- nia say how you doing almost like it was a mot- to or something. Our week started out without grandkids so we went to Evansville to have the oil changed in our CR V. With as much Covid occurring in Evansville, we were careful and aware of what we were doing and how we were doing it. Of course they told us about all the filters I had intended to get done were still showing their codes. I guess I'll have to do better. I have two things coming up which I have been working on and they both require a com- puter. I have to make flyers and plan how to make it enjoyable and meaningful. On March 13, I have been asked to bring a memorial ser- vice for the Lions from our district who have passed away. My friend and I have been work- ing toward making this a good memorial as a tribute to the fallen. We have candles to light with reading of each name, poems to be read, scripture to be read, and perhaps the song "Who's going to fill their shoes" sang by me as another tribute. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. In this Valentine season, let us focus on words given to us from the Bible of how we should love. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not eas- ily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not de- light in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres" (I Corin- thians 13:4-7). Pastor Tuffy can be seen live on Facebook at 10 :15 a.m. on Sunday morning. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your understanding" (Prov- erbs 3:5). There will always be secrets and motives of God that lie be- yond our grasp. God knows ev- erything we do not. Only in Heaven will we understand God's ways more fully. As Paul said, "Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I al- so am known" (I Corinthians 13:12). But based upon what we do know about God's character demonstrated supremely in the Cross, we can trust that God is doing what is best for us. God says in His Word, "I know the plans I have for you.. plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" ( Jeremiah 29:11). If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be deeply appreciat- ed and you will leave being blessed. Social distancing is still in place and until further notice, there will be no children's church or Sunday night fel- lowship. Thought for the week: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life" ( John 8:12). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Gary Watson, Pastor Nyles Head, Assoc.
