A-10 Wednesday, Feburar y 10, 2021 The Press-Dispatch MINUTES Continued from page 8 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 8 Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan Independent PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the WINSLOW I'd spend all nine lives with you, if you adopt me. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a handsome feline named Winslow, who is a big fellow, with a big heart. He is a laid-back cat that can usually be found sun- ning himself in the window of the office at PAWS. He has plush gray fur, with a cream-colored nose and whiskers to match. His tail has stripes, he has myste- rious green eyes and would make someone a very spe- cial Valentine. To reserve Winslow, call 812-354-9894. its vital importance and be softened by it. Ultimately he will either be eternally con- demned, or eternally saved and justified by his response to that message. "The preaching of the cross is to them that per- ish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the pow- er of God" (I Cor. 1:18). "Christ crucified… unto them which are called… the power of God and the wis- dom of God" (I Cor. 1:23,24). "The power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth" (Rom. 1:16). Mark well: it is "the gos- pel of the grace of God," the "preaching of the cross," that produces such results. The law of Moses never did, "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh," God sent His Son to accomplish for us (Rom. 8:3,4). This is why Paul pro- claimed, at Antioch of Pisid- ia: "Be it known unto you therefore, men and breth- ren, that through this Man is preached unto you the for- giveness of sins; and by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:38,39). God's message to us is a message of love, proclaiming to even the vilest sinner that he may be "justified freely by [God's] grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24). Methodist I have caught myself thinking about all our clubs losing older members and very few younger people to take up the challenge to help our brothers and sisters in this world. The song has a true meanin. The elder pop- ulation has had a different approach in their view of helping, while it seems as though our younger gener- ations aren't as dedicated to getting to the job, but they have a desire to get there just leave out the middle part be- cause we have other things to do. Perhaps clubs may dwin- dle, but I think the caring will still go on in a different way. Hopefully April 24 will be a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and warm tem- peratures because we are planning a cruise-in at Cup Creek General Baptist. It should be a great event be- cause we have four catego- ries to award trophies. Also a live bid auction on articles donated by the church and friends and neighbors of the church. This day should be a lot of fun so put it on your calendars now. I would like to remind ev- eryone it is time to check or change your smoke-alarms batteries. I checked the volt- age on my alarms and they were all working, but for how long so I changed my batteries. They are usually good for a year, but it doesn't hurt to check them ever so often. It could save your fam- ily's lives. I am going to have to watch myself because I seem to be getting used to sitting in my recliner. There is an old saying, "I would rath- er be too active rather than rust away." At least I am still exercising each morning so I'm not in my chair all day. We drove the slick roads Sunday morning to go to church and listen to the Padgets from Ohio per- form and bring God's word through their singing. Well it is time for our challenge for the week and that is go the extra mile to make someone's day more blessed. So do what you do for God and let God work through you. 10 a.m.-noon CDT. Sunday morning service 10 :15 a.m.; Children's Sun- day school at 11 a.m.; Tues- day night at 6 p.m. prayer. Next prayer night will be Feb- ruary 23. The weather outside has taken a dip in temperature and is cold. This is physical and we know it will occur. But spiritually many of God's chil- dren have turned cold and are not operating in the Spirit with a fire burning inside for this world of hurting, helpless and lost souls. Paul told Timothy to stir the gift inside and my prayer is that the church gets back to prayer, reading the Word, and fasting to rekindle the plan of God for their lives and a fire of revival in their hearts. Pray for your president, con- gress, unsaved loved ones, those that are sick and hos- pitalized, nursing home resi- dents, friends and neighbors. Also, pray for the peace of Je- rusalem. May your week be peaceful and fulfilling, and be thankful OAKLAND CITY FIRST PENTECOST Hwy. 64 East Sunday morning service 9:30 a.m. with children's Sun- day school during the minis- try of the Word; Sunday and Wednesday evening services at 6 p.m. All services are CST (Gibson Co. times). We apologize for any incon- venience this past Sunday, as due to temperature and weather our services were cancelled. Check Facebook, during these winter months, if conditions are bad. Thou shalt not covet. One of God's commandments. He doesn't mind us having things but we aren't to live and breath for stuff. To quote Keith Moore, "Things are like a gallon of milk. There is an expiration date. Then, they cease to be of any good." Be content and complete in Jesus. He is eternal. We reach out to the many that have lost loved ones already this year. We pray for strength and comfort. Ron Vickers, Pastor Elaine Young, Reporter, 812-749 -1122 (leave a mes- sage). for that which you do have. George Bruce, Jr., Pastor MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you. Ashes On Ash Wednesday, as Lent begins, worshippers' fore- heads are often marked with ashes in the sign of the cross. The ashes traditionally come from burning palm branches from the previous Palm Sun- day. In Old Testament days, ashes were a sign of mourn- ing and repentance. Today, some worshippers wipe off the ashes before leaving church, to symbolize being cleansed from sin by Jesus' death; oth- ers wear the ashes the rest of the day, carrying the cross of Christ into the world. The speaking of Genesis 3:19 of- ten accompanies the place- ment of ashes: "You are dust, and to dust you shall return." Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday eve- ning worship service. Love A lot of us will be celebrat- ing Valentine's Day next Sun- day, by telling or showing those family members and friends how much we love and care for them. The Bible tells us that love is from God and that God is love. The neat thing about God's love is that it's not a feel- ing to him, he can't fall out of love with us. He loves us even when we're not lovable and when we're grumpy or doing bad things. He loves all of us no matter what. The tricky part is loving others like God loves us. There is a special kind of love we can have for others, it's called agape love. I'm sure you'll run into somebody you don't think deserves your love or you just don't want to love at all, but God loves them and if we love God, we are supposed to love them too. Who exactly are we sup- posed to love? *Love God *Love yourself *Love your family *Love your friends *Love your neighbors *Love your enemies Learning to love like God takes a long time and takes God's help. It's easier to love than to hate, so have lots of fun learning to love God and everyone around you. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his on- ly begotten Son, that whoso- ever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlast- ing life" ( John 3:16). Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Sunday morning fellowship 10 a.m.; Church at 10 :30 a.m.; Bible studies: Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Brian Eilert's house and Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at church. Isaiah prophesied the best in Isaiah 5:20. Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil. Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness. Who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. If we think God isn't watch- ing what we are doing, we are fools. Psalms 64:5: They (we) encourage themselves (our- selves) in an evil matter; they (we) talk of laying snares se- cretly. They (we)say who will see them (us).Hebrews 4:15: And there is no creature hid- den from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Murder is murder, wheth- er in a mother's womb or out. The Bible tells us men with men committing what is shameful is an abomination to God. And if that's not bad enough, how can we actually think that a five-year-old child can decide if they want to be a boy or girl? How can anyone that agrees with something so insane call themselves par- ents? My prayer for all of us is God will have mercy on us. But take to heart and meditate on what Isaiah is warning us about here. Search your heart and re- alize that we are calling evil good and good evil. This is prophesied over 2,700 years ago for the signs of the time, which I believe is today. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor David Sattler, Reporter
