PHYLLIS R AE PHILLIPS Phyllis Rae Phillips, 81, of Oakland City, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway. She was born May 12, 1939, in Petersburg, to the late Paul Blythe and Mildred Louise (Hawkins) McGillem. She was a nurse for 14 years at Gibson General Hos- pital. She was a member of the Community of Christ of Wash- ington. She was active with a wonderful group of widowed friends. She was an avid read- er and read almost every book at Oakland City Library. She is survived by her chil- dren, Rayetta Wagster, Eddie (Rita) Phillips, Todd (Mari) Phillips and Georgia Elaine (Keith) Melhiser; grand- children, Jackie, Tyler, Ash- ley, Danny, Misty, Blake, Nicholas, Lucas and Ethan; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Griffen, Poppy, Vivian, Trinity, Harmony, Jaylynn, Raylie, Ky- lie, Hunter, Keegen and Jaxon; sisters, Judy Oaks, Pam Eck- ert, Becky (Richard) Shoultz; very best friend since she was 18, Betty McDonald; and spe- cial friend and caregiver, Pen- ny Garwood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George Edward Phillips, who died in 2002; great-grand- daughter, Elizabeth Phillips; and brother, Larry Paul Mc- Gillem. BET TY JO ENGLAND Betty Jo England, 95, of Si- erra Vista, Ariz., formerly of Princeton, passed away on Fri- day, January 22, 2021, at Ca- sa de la Luz Hospice in Tuc- son, Ariz. She was born July 7, 1925, in Littles in Pike County, to Joseph F. and Mary G. (Mc- Candless) Davis. She had returned to Arizo- na five years ago, having lived there prior to the years she lived in Princeton. She was a member of the First Gen- eral Baptist Church in Princ- eton and had been a member of the Doodle-De-Doers musi- cal group. She had worked in Flagstaff and Douglas, Ariz., for Gold Bond Stamps and was known as the Gold Bond Stamp Lady. She enjoyed read- ing and collecting stamps. She loved her Indiana church family and Indiana. Her final wish was to go home. She is survived by her son, Richard (Lori Jean) England, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; grand- children, Michael, Stephen, Erica, Kevin "Boots" Jr., Jen- nifer, Justin and Jared; numer- ous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia O'Neal, of Princeton, who sadly passed away on January 27. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eu- gene M. England, in 2002; sons, Philip England and Kev- in England; grandson, Chad England; siblings, Sam, Hen- ry, Rudi, Marvin and Esther; and five infant brothers and sisters. She was born January 4, 1934, in Pike County, to the late Cortney B. Willis and Es- ther L. ( Jones) Willis. She married Kenneth Richard Loveless on November 14, 1952 and they were blessed with 62 years together before his passing in October 2015. She loved to crochet and quilt. She enjoyed working with her hands and tending to her flowers. She liked fish- ing in the pond in her yard, and raised puppies and chick- ens in her younger years. She was the definition of a good mom, often found in the kitchen cooking for the ones she loved. She was most fond of holidays and Sunday family get-togethers. She was dearly loved and will be missed be- yond measure. She is survived by her chil- dren, Richard Lee (Beverly) Loveless, of Oakland City, Jeannie Gail Pride, of Oak- land City, Jeffery Dean (Su- san) Loveless, of Petersburg, and Terry Lynn Loveless, of Petersburg; grandchildren, Christina Hess, Abby ( Jus- tin) Hyneman, Thomas ( Ju- lie) Pride, Timothy Pride, Ter- ry Loveless, Jr., Shandi Kay Loveless and Amy (Connor) McBride; great-grandchil- dren, Sophie Ilene Fletcher, Avery Grace Fletcher, Locke Elwood Pride, Elayna Kath- leen Pride, Emma Kay White, Tobius Carlyle Loveless, Titus Carlyle Loveless and Matthew Hess; brother, Adrian B. MALINDA JANE ALEX ANDER Malinda Jane (Tislow) Al- exander, 65, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021, at Deacon- ess Midtown. She was born on December 17, 1955, to the late Joseph E. and Mazo I. (Alley) Tislow. She graduated from Peters- burg High School in 1973 and enjoyed many happy years in Pike County before moving to Evansville. Malinda and Billy J. Alexan- der, Jr. were married in 1993 and were very much in love. They enjoyed over 30 years together, residing and work- ing in Evansville. She worked at various sales jobs and her last place of employment was at Spa City U.S.A. She loved working with the public and her customers became life- long friends. Her battle with her health started seven years ago with a heart condition, and more re- cently, she developed breast cancer. Despite her challenging health issues, she made "lem- onade out of lemons" as she called it. She was of the Cath- olic faith and her trust in Je- sus Christ strengthened her resolve. She is survived by her lov- ing and devoted husband, Bill; her brother, Thomas (Tommy) J. Tislow, of Cerritos, Calif., whom she absolutely adored and looked up to; her fur ba- bies, Maui, Ozzie, Ziggy, Zoie, Missy and Toby; her sister-in- law, Ginger (Alexander) Mills, and husband, Kenny; and a host of wonderful close friends and caring cousins. She was extremely grateful for all the professional staff at Ascension St. Vincent, Dea- coness Health, Davita Staff and Pine Haven Rehabilitation (River Bend now), where she was a resident for 2 1/2 years, MARY LOU DEFFENDALL Mary Lou Deffendall, 88, of Petersburg, passed away Jan- uary 29, 2021, in Evansville. She was born June 28, 1932, in Princeton, to Elza and Edith (Decker) Walton. She graduated from Mt. Olympus High School in 1950 and worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years before retiring. She is survived by her sons, Mick Deffendall and Nick (Lynn) Deffendall; grandchil- dren, Jo (Chris) Livermore, Sara Deffendall, Asa (Megan) Deffendall and Jamie (David) Cutsinger; six great-grand- children, Ethan, Carsten, Jor- dan, Delaney, Jake and Cole; and a sister, Betty Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Def- fendall; son, Rick Deffendall; her parents; and brother, Jim Walton. Private family services will be at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg. Harris Funer- al Home is entrusted with her care. VIRGINIA O. O'NEAL Virginia O. O'Neal, 99, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville. She was born on June 1, 1921, in Littles in Pike County, to Fred and Mary G. (McCand- less) Davis. She had worked as a cashier at A&P Grocery and Harold's Grocery, and she was a mem- ber of First Baptist Church in Princeton, where she vol- unteered in the church nurs- ery. She collected dolls, en- joyed crocheting, especially baby blankets, and was an av- id reader. She is survived by her son, Don (Mary Ann) O'Neal, of Princeton; daughter-in-law, Donna O'Neal, of Chandler; grandchildren, April (Steve) Grangier, Ian (Lisa) O'Neal, Audrey (Eric) Buerger, Darby O'Neal and Jennifer Young; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James "Bus" O'Neal, in 1998; son, Dennis Michael "Mike" O'Ne- al, in 2019; and siblings, Sam, Henry, Rudi and Marvin Davis, Esther Dillon and Betty Jo En- gland, who passed away Janu- ary 22, 2021. ROBERT DALE KINMAN Robert Dale Kinman, 66, of Evansville, passed away at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway. He was born April 5, 1954, in Petersburg, to Robert J. Kin- man and Mary Lou (Biggs) Kinman. He graduated from Peters- burg High School in 1972. He worked as a draftsman and he was a drummer for many lo- cal bands. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Kinman; sons, Michael Kinman and Kory (Devon) Kinman; sister, Jane Shields; and brothers, Keith Kinman and Tim Kinman. He was preceded in death by his parents. Boyd Wineinger, Calvin and Christy Wineinger and family Deb Brown and family Keith and Marcia Hill and family Carolyn and Eugene Hayes Shirley Wineinger 1936 – 2021 MARK EDWIN R ANSFORD Mark Edwin Ransford, 72, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on July 9, 1948, to Lloyd Allen Ransford and Betty Jean (Bosley) Ransford in Clinton, Ind. He attended Clinton High School, where he ran track and played football. In 1966, he completed a bachelor's de- gree in education at Indiana State University. He holds a master's degree in education from ISU and a Ph.D. in edu- cation leadership from Indi- ana University, Bloomington. Beginning with his first posi- tion as a middle school math teacher at Glendale Middle School, he spent his career dedicated to public educa- tion. He served as an admin- istrator in the Shoals Commu- nity School Corporation, Pike County School Corporation and Union County School Cor- poration until his retirement. He returned to work with chil- dren at Grandview Elementa- ry until his death. He was pas- sionate about providing all stu- dents with the best possible education and mentoring his teachers and staff. In addition to his work, he enjoyed fishing and canoeing lakes and rivers. He was an av- id sports fan, who loved a high school game as much as a pro- fessional one. Over the years, he was an active member of Shoals Christian Church, Pe- tersburg Christian Church, and, most recently, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. He volunteered his time with ma- ny organizations, such as the Lions Club, Optimist Club and the IU Student Foundation. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Faith; two children, Amy and Beth; granddaugh- ter, Sophie; brother, Lloyd Bradley Ransford; Brad and Rita Lawson; Gail Williams and Erin Medved; and niec- es, nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Allen Ransford; mother, Betty Jean Ransford; and brother, Gary Allen Rans- ford.
