CHARLES RANKIN ROSS Waco - Charles Rankin Ross, 90, went home to be with his Heavenly Father January 20, 2021 at Atrium Health - Cleveland in Shelby. Mr. Ross was born in Chase City, Virginia on September 20, 1930 a son of the late David Luther Ross and Julia Wagner Ross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Heavner Ross; daughters, Christine Ross, Cynthia McCraw, Shirley Faye Ross; a grand- son, three brothers, Delbert, Sylvester and William Ross and three sisters, Naomi Ross Daves, Lena Ross Martin and Violet Ross Seagroves. Mr. Ross served our coun- try in the U.S. Army. Those who are left to cherish his mem- ory are his daughters Julie Crotts of Hickory and Rita Scism of Shelby; son Alvin Ross and wife Rita Ross of Cherryville; Angela Watson of Waco; ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great grand- children, and thirteen great great grandchildren. A graveside service was held January 22, 2021 at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Lawndale with Pastors Edward Mullaly, Don Capell and Todd Phillips offi- ciating. JERRY DEAN "TINY" MARTIN Blacksburg - Jerry Dean "Tiny" Martin, 49, of 225 Hickory Hollow Road, passed away January 17th, 2021, at Atrium Health Cleveland. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Michelle Patterson Martin and the son of Jerry Martin and Katherine White Martin. In addition to his wife, Mr. Martin is survived by his chil- dren, Jessica Martin Pintoff (Justin) and Derrick Martin; one sister, Angie Martin Mullinax (Mike); and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Tracy Martin Downs. Graveside services were held January 21, 2021 at Clingman Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Phillip Martin officiating. LOYD BAXTER SMITH Loyd Baxter Smith, Sr., age 85, passed away January 8, 2021 at Atrium Health Cleveland. Born in Shelby, NC on March 11, 1935, Loyd was the son of the late John Wiley Smith and Helen Anthony Smith. Loyd is preceded in death by both parents and his brother Robert "Bob" Smith of Burlington, NC. Loyd is survived by his wife Becky; his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Cecil Burton of Shelby, his son and daughte-in-law, Loyd Jr. "Kip" and Robin Smith of Shelby; his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Wendy Smith of Shelby; his son Seth Smith of Shelby; six grandchildren; his brother-in-law Jack Arey and wife Carole of Shelby; his sister-in-law Doris Smith of Burlington, NC. A celebration of life was held January 23, 2021 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. Burial fol- lowed at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby. HENRY EUGENE "GENE" WRAY Henry Eugene "Gene" Wray, age 81, passed away January 21, 2021 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia. Born in York County, SC he was the son of the late Claude Marion Wray and Barbara Martin Wray. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Priscilla Bell Wray, three brothers; Marion, Arnold and Donald Wray and three sisters; Kathleen Ledbetter, Brenda Lovelace and Gertrude Wray. Gene is survived by one daughter, Tammy Branton of Shelby, one son, Tony Wray and wife Meloni of New Bern, one bother Roy Frank Wray of Shelby, and three grand- sons. A native of Hickory, he was the son of the late Marvin and Minnie Pearl Wallace Fortenberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Mae Allen Fortenberry; brother, MA Fortenberry; and sisters, Mildred Beam, Dorothy Robertson, Jo Humphries, Frances Lindsey and Carolyn Hagler. He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Fortenberry; son, Billy Fortenberry and his wife Christie; two grand- daughters, brother, Wallace Lee Fortenberry and wife Judy of GA. GLENN HAROLD SENTER Glenn Harold Senter, age 77 of Mooresboro, NC, passed away January 19, 2021 at his home. Willis, age 80, passed away on December 22, 2020 at Huntersville Oaks. Born in Lincoln County on April 29, 1940 he was the son of the late Ed Willis and Mary Maebelle Costner Willis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his former wife Daisy P. Willis, two brothers; Hugh and Franklin Willis and three sisters; Jeanette and Jewel Willis and Inez Hailey as well as a step-son, Eddie Emery. Charles is survived by his wife, Linda L. Willis of Shelby, step-children Michael Emery and wife Karen of Gaffney, SC, Rita Clark of Shelby and Denise Taylor and husband Kenneth of Latta, S.C. David Hoyle, Danny Hoyle, Bobby Hoyle and wife Aleksandra all of Cherryville, fourteen grandchildren, as well as many great-grandchildren. Mr. Willis served our coun- try in the U.S. Army. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Joe Hullender (Denise); sisters, Phyllis Nelson (Jackie), and Patty Tillman. All services are private. BARBARA HENSLEY BRIDGES Barbara Hensley Bridges, age 82, of Bostic, passed away January 21, 2021 at her residence. Barbara was born October 5, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Bunion Dee Hensley and Queen Esther Mace Hensley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James David Bridges; daughter, Sherry Lynn Hammett; brothers, Charles Jack Hensley and J.D. Hensley and a sister, Mossie Sue Baynard. Those left to cherish her memory include two daugh- ters, Cathy Bridges Tuman (Richard) and Kim Farrer (Ronnie Morrow) all of Bostic; two sisters, Bardee Champion of Forest City and Carolyn Lawson (Charles) of Ellenboro; seven grand- children, and fourteen great- grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted January 23, 2021 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with her son-in-law, Richard E. Tuman, officiat- ing. Interment followed at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
