Robert Lee "Bob" Carpenter, Jr. age 69 of Cherryville, passed away January 15, 2021 at his resi- dence. He was born September 30, 1951 in Lincoln County to the late Robert Lee Sr. and Merle Dellinger Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter served our country in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal. CARMEN CHRISTOPHER COLES Carmen Christopher Coles, 66, of Shelby passed away January 15, 2021 at Caromont Health in Gastonia. A native of Cleveland County, Carmen was the daughter of the late Sam and Betty Woods Christopher. She is survived by her husband, George Coles of the home; daughter, Miriam Fletcher and hus- band Austin of Tallahassee, FL; son, Samuel Coles of Tucson, AZ; sister, Cathy Arnold and husband Ernest of Spartanburg, SC; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 20, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Tim Sims officiat- ing. Burial followed January 21, in Cleveland Memorial Park. CAROLYN SAINE MOORE Carolyn Saine Moore, age 72, of Mooresboro, passed away January 15, 2021 at her residence. Carolyn was born May 15, 1948 in Rutherford County to the late Clyde Saine, Sr. and Eunice Lancaster Saine. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Vick Moore; brothers, Charles Saine, Clyde Saine, Jr. and a sister, Myrtle Heusinkveld. Those left to cherish her memory include two daugh- ters, Paula Chino (Dominic) of Mooresboro and Alisha Phillips (Chris Johnson) of Forest City; two sons, Steven Phillips of Forest City and Clark Phillips, Jr. of Mooresboro; sister, Ramona Lane of Forest City and brother, James Saine of Mooresboro. Born in Cleveland County, NC on December 8, 1976, she was a daughter of Edwin Columbus Beam and Rebecca "Becky" Williams Beam. She is preceded in death Smiley of Cherryville. HELEN PHILBECK GRAYSON Helen Philbeck Grayson, age 95, passed away January 16, 2021, peacefully at home in Shelby surrounded by her family. She was native of Blacksburg, SC, and daugh- ter of Broadus Randolph and Minnie Moss Philbeck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Grayson, her sister Alda May Grigg, brothers Aydlotte Philbeck, Thomas Philbeck, Broadus Philbeck, Jr., James Campbell Philbeck, and her brother-in-law, Ted Ervin Grayson. Helen is survived by her sister, Estelle Philbeck Thomas (Robert) of Blacksburg, SC, brother, Willis Philbeck of Ocala, FL, a son, Kevin Ray Grayson and wife, Anita of Shelby; a son, Brent Avery Grayson and wife, Lynn of Charlotte, NC; five grandsons, her sis- ter-in-law, Elizabeth Scruggs Grayson of Shelby. A private funeral ser- vice was held January 19, 2021 at Westwood Heights Baptist Church and Cleveland Memorial Park with the Reverend David Costner officiating.
