Vernon, 41-20 By Andy Heuring Pike Central's Lady Charger bas- ketball team stumbled out of the blocks and by the time they regained their balance, it was too late. Mt. Vernon ran up a 21-1 lead against the Chargers in the first 10 minutes of their Saturday afternoon game and then played even with the Chargers for a 41-20 win. The one-two punch of Mt. Vernon's 5'11" Brooke Jackson inside and Page Robinson on the out- side were too much for the Chargers early on. Pike Central (3-3) looked sluggish from their nearly two-week layoff, having not played since No- vember 24 when they beat Tell City 60 -28, as their games with Eastern Greene and Barr-Reeve were post- Grapplers nipped by Central and Reitz Pike Central came up just short of wins against Reitz and Central in a double dual at Re- itz on Saturday morning. Pike Central Charger var- sity wrestling coach Caleb Cherry reported, "We wres- tled Reitz first, came out hot and the boys wrestled great. Gave up some forfeits and lost 41-36. Junior Jon Cannon went 2-0 at 145 and sophomore Kale Speedy was 2-0 at 182. Soph- omore Corey Goeppner fin- ished 2-0 at 195 pounds. The Chargers lost a tie breaker (36 -37) to Evansville Central, where Griffin Boyd, Jon Cannon, Jackson Stuckey and Kale Speedy all won by pin. Isaac Shimer and Corey Goeppner won by forfeit, but Charger forfeits at 106, 132, 285 and 170 were costly. Boyd scored a take down and near fall, with a pin com- ing at 1:30 in the second pe- riod against Logan Tillotson at 113. With Central, Boyd claimed a first period pin of Trevor Fisher at 1:34. Can- non racked up a take down, es- cape, take down, near fall and then pinned Jonah Dorman in the second period. Cannon pinned Central's Rylen Amen- to in the third period after tak- ing an 8 -6 edge into the third.
