Commissioners vote to request $24K to purchase a ventilator, new cot for EMS By Andy Heuring Pike County Commission- ers voted to request an addi- tional $24,000 to purchase a ventilator and new cot for the Emergency Medical Service. EMS Director Chris Young said originally he had request- ed two new cots to replace their 12-year-old cots. How- ever, he said they have been getting requests for transfers of patients on a ventilator. He said a ventilator costs $17,000 and a new cot is $7,000. Young said at the last meeting, the commissioners had approved him requesting the two new cots. He asked they change the additional re- quest to $24,000 for the cot and a ventilator. They voted 3-0 to approve the request that has to go be- fore the county council. Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a two-week unpaid leave for Larry Julian. "Not more than two weeks," said Commissioner Ryan Coleman. Commissioner president Mark Flint said Julian was re- questing the county pay his in- surance for those two weeks. "If we don't, it goes to CO- BR A", which would require Julian to pay for those two weeks. Coleman said he would agree if they kept it to the two weeks. It was approved by a 3- 0 vote. The commissioners also ap- proved an agreement with the Indiana Department of Trans- portation for a reimbursement of $2,200 of rock to put on a county road after it was used as an unofficial detour. The road was a detour when IN- DOT was repairing a bridge. Several old surveillance cameras in and on the court- house were replaced recent- ly. Commissioner Assis- tant Kristi Dischinger said they just need to get approv- al to dispose of the camer- as. Sheriff Kent Johnson said he would like one because it might be used as a replace- ment if one in the jail goes out. "They are actually newer than ours," said Johnson. "You can have them if you agree to take them all," said Commissioner Jeff Nelson. Johnson said he could han- dle that. The commissioners' next meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday, December 21.
