Stam In St. Paul's mighty Epistle to the Romans he declares "the gospel [good news] of God… concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 1:1-3). The good news which Paul proclaimed was essentially about Christ. He was always talking about Christ. His epistles were filled with Christ. In his message Christ was every- thing. This is in striking contrast to much of mod- ern evangelism, which is not Christ-centered, but man-centered. Dr. A. W. Tozer, shortly be- fore his death, wrote: "The flaw in current evangelism lies in its humanistic approach… It is frankly fascinated by the great, noisy, aggressive world with its big names, its hero worship, its wealth and pag- eantry… This gross misapprehension of the truth is back of much… of our present evan- gelical activity… "This concept of Christianity is a radical er- ror, and because it touches the souls of men it America is suffering from a national and spiritual identity crisis. Today many in Amer- ica are hostile to Christianity, hold dual citi- zenship and have divided loyalties. The spir- itual and patriotic surge after 9/11 has faded away. The core values of our present culture often mock religion. At the same time Chris- tians know that any kind of racial or ethnical- ly intolerant society is non-Christian. The core value of our creed promotes the dignity of all people as a major Christian virtue. We believe all men are endowed by their Creator with cer- tain unalienable rights. Liberty is one of our unalienable rights. The core value is emphasized in Scripture. Free- dom of religion is un- der attack from atheist, ACLU, media, internet, liberal politicians and a government that has be- come secular and seeks globalization. Today America needs a new commitment to God and the values of our found- ing fathers. It can so quickly slip away as it has in other nations. We need to promote a recommitment to our creeds, a respect for American history and a Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas It's time to put a few words on paper and try to make a little sense with some of them and with a few other words make you think for yourself. Sure seems as though time to write comes sooner and sooner each week. I have heard it said that once you retire there are sev- en Saturdays in a week, I don't know about that but time sure gets away from you easily. While ringing the bells at the Hardware store last Saturday afternoon I was blessed to see another work mate from IPL so a shout-out to Mike Johnson. Mike was almost always full of fun and he did his best to keep people smil- ing, sometimes at my expense, but he was fun to work with and kept things interesting and never dull. It was good reminiscing with Mike and I pray many blessings to him and his wife and may their lives be a blessing to others. I've seen on facebook that there are a few people who listen to and like the "Moron Broth- ers" from Kentucky. They are good musicians and can sing some really good blue grass. A lot of their songs are written by them so there is always a little personality in their singing which makes it good. Out of a hit or miss sort of a thing I decided to email them and give them a big thank you for their show. I really didn't expect an answer but they did and said that whenever this pandemic eases enough for the nursing facilities to allow enter- tainment they would get us booked at the Vet- erans center in Wilmore Ky. To make it even nicer they said they would be there to play along with us. I had always enjoyed listening to them and thought their show was good and clean, their email to me just proved how nice CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. "I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus re- turns" (Philippians 1:6, NLT). When we give our lives to God, we expect to be radi- cally transformed and then old habits creep in. We get frustrated and discouraged when we discover we get en- snared in the same old temp- tations. It is tempting to quit, but we should be encouraged. Christ's work in us is contin- ual, a process and sometimes a painful one. But His grace will cover us and He promis- es to finish His work in us. He will never leave or abandon us. What a comforting thought. Remembering those in our prayers who are ill, our coun- try, our leaders and all who are need of God's saving grace. We invite you to worship with us. "God has given Him the name which is above every name" (Philippians 2:9). Over two thousand years ago, on a night the world has come to call Christmas, a young Jewish maiden went through the experience count- less mothers had before her. She brought forth a child, but this birth was like no other in the history of the human race. For one thing, this Child had no human father. As the an- gel had promised, "The Ho- ly Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will over shadow you" (Luke 1:35). In humble obedience, the Virgin Mary responded, "Let it be to no one according to your word" (Luke 1:38). But it also was like no oth- er birth because of the One who was born. This was no ordinary child. This was the unique Son of God, sent from Heaven to save us from our sins. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be deeply appreciat- ed and you will leave being blessed. Remember Jesus is the rea- son for the season.
