Letter to the Editor The election results, concede, not so fast! Veterans eligible for memorial benefits GEORGIA Continued from page 4 LOST Continued from page 4 WILLIAMS Continued from page 4 lives — for such irresponsi- ble double standards. That has in fact happened. As a person, Walter Wil- liams was unique. I have heard of no one else being de- scribed as being "like Walter Williams." Holding a black belt in karate, Walter was a tough customer. One night three men jumped him — and two of those men ended up in a hospital. The other side of Walter came out in relation to his wife, Connie. She helped put him through graduate school — and after he re- ceived his Ph.D., she never had to work again, not even to fix his breakfast. Walter liked to go to his job at 4:30 A.m.. He was the only person who had no problem finding a parking space on the street in downtown Wash- ington. Around 9 o'clock or so, Connie — now awake — would phone Walter and they would greet each other ten- derly for the day. We may not see his like again. And that is our loss. Thomas Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institu- tion, Stanford University. CRISIS Continued from page 4 over as head of the presi- dent's Council of Economic Advisers. For sure, Democrats will spend tens of millions in Georgia, much of it target- ed at Georgia's sizable black population to get large turn- out for the Democrats. But blacks, or any other Georgians, who think their personal future or the future of the country lies with moral and fiscal bankruptcy should think again. Readers can respond to Star's column by emailing star-parker@ur- bancure.org. lot and look into a patient's window several stories up knowing they are dying with- out their pastor by their side. This is my calling but the government, hospitals, and nursing facilities in essence tell me and God-too bad–it's not safe! How do I respond? Think about it! enforcement office or a do- not-call government office and the scammer can sort it out with them. I have not do- ne it yet but I might. So folks, beware. There are evil people out there whose full-time job is to prac- tice how to project a convinc- ing tone of voice, how to spot a gullible victim and how to give ten thousand reasons why they should be trusted. You'll be surprised how ma- ny people fall victim to this ploy, even the sophisticated and supposedly smart vic- tims do fall prey. Remember, when an offer over the phone sounds too good to be true, it certain- ly is. So, when you get a sus- picious call, hang up right away, or maybe if you acci- dentally got tricked into a conversation, give a phone number of another scam- mer or maybe the toll free number of America's Most Wanted, or Crime Stoppers. Sounds good? Have a great week. BUSINESS Continued from page 4 Court Report FELONY Pike County Circuit Court Garold R. Economic Policy in the Heri- tage Foundation and focuses on tax matters, securities law, entrepreneurship, financial privacy and regulatory and administrative law issues. The Veterans A ffairs National Cem- etery Administration wants veterans to know the bottom line upfront: Many vet- erans don't realize their military service entitles them to be interred in a nation- al cemetery at no cost. Even if a veter- an never received disability or any oth- er benefit from the VA, if they served on active duty and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, they are eligible. If they served in the Reserve Component and were mobilized or served long enough to earn a retirement, they are eligible. Yet only 20 percent of all eligible vet- erans living in the United States take ad- vantage of this benefit which would save their families thousands of dollars. The best, most efficient way to ensure veterans get the burial or memorial ben- efits they and their spouse have earned through military service is through a VA program called Pre-Need Eligibility, or Pre-Need. Pre-Need establishes eligibil- ity for VA burial and memorial benefits before death, so the family doesn't have to go searching for documentation after the veteran's death. Most Veterans with the service de- scribed above will also be entitled to a burial headstone or marker (bronze plaque). Your veteran's office is open Mon- day, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 – 4. Lunch is taken each day from noon to 1 p.m. We're located in the Old Petersburg Gym with the Health Department. The phone number is 812-354-6245 and the web address is pikevet@yahoo. com. If you call during work hours and don't get an answer, please leave a message. Tom Dooley Pike County Veterans Service Officer Recently I read an Editorial, which states that President Trump should con- cede the Presidential Election and ac- cept reality. I say, not so fast! Could we see what the evidence of voter fraud that has been uncovered before the Presi- dent makes that decision? To many of the Trump supporters, it was hard to un- derstand why President Trump could lose this race when all his rallies were attend- ed by thousands upon thousands of sup- porters (and many that could not get in because of covid restrictions) while the Biden rallies were attended by barely a few hundred people sitting in their cars. Biden's handlers would not let him come out of his basement to face questions on- ly in a controlled environment. The President's lawyers held a news conference and gave a general outline of the voter fraud they found and want to fol- low up in the courts but immediately the liberal press and Democrats went on the air saying there was no evidence present- ed and it was baseless and not even giving the American people a chance to decide for themselves. None of the liberal media covered the news conference but imme- diately went on air to discredit it and say there was no proof. Do these liberals real- ly think the President's lawyers would lay out all the facts in a news conference be- fore they present these facts in a court of law? With all the voter fraud in this elec- tion, a universal Voter ID law in all states could help to stamp out voter fraud. But look who is fighting voter-id? The liber- als and the Democrats do not want vot- er-id because it may shut the door on vot- er fraud. The liberal media and Democrats don't want to hear anything about voter fraud and they definitely don't want the evi- dence to come out in court. What are they afraid of? Could it be they don't want to hear any evidence as their mind is al- ready made up and don't want to cloud their mind with facts? The Democrats and liberal media are in a rush to close this out and crown Biden king. The liberal media no longer conceals their bias against President Trump. It is now in plain view for the world to see. We are already living in that dark state where information you receive from the liber- al media is filtered to their speculations for the liberal agenda and against Presi- dent Trump. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McCon- nell said he would not be lectured by lib- eral Democrats who want the president to concede when these same Democrats spent the last four years doing everything they could to hinder and block his admin- istration at every turn. He stated he would not be lectured by this crowd for what they have done over the last four years. Senator Lindsay Graham stated he wel- comed the president to get to the bottom of all the voter fraud because if they don't investigate this voter fraud they will never elect another Republican President again. The voter fraud that has taken place in this election may never come to light as the people who perpetrated it seem to have done a good job of covering their tracks. But does that mean we should not at least try to get to the bottom of this problem and try to investigate all the ac- cusations of voter fraud and see what this is all about. Very few in the media are in- terested in this investigation but unless we do clear this up, faith in our election process are quickly eroding because of the many inconsistencies in the Demo- crat controlled cities. In closing let us hope this investigation goes forward to see what the courts un- cover or else this will be a black cloud that will forever hang over the 2020 Presi- dential Election. But whatever is the case, don't let the liberal media decide this case on CNN, MSNBC or any of the other lib- eral outlets. Let the evidence be present- ed in the courts and go from there. Every effort should be made to ensure the integrity of our election process, es- pecially if there is suspect fraudulent ac- tivity. Anyone or any party that would try to stop such an investigation should be suspect of malicious motives. If there is a problem let us find it now in order to protect and ensure our future elections.
