She said she has been growing luffa sponge gourds for 30 years, but this was the fi rst time she has ever had one to sprout from its seeds inside. The luffa is a genus of tropical and subtropical vine in the cucumber family, and luffa-derived sponges are tough on dirt, but non-abrasive and perfect for washing your face, body, dishes, fl oor, or car.
