He was born June 18, 1926, in Gaston County to the late Walter Bryan and Docia Harriet Mauney Putnam. Mr. Putnam served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Frances Elizabeth Furr Putnam; brothers, Hugh, Raleigh, W.B., James, and Kenneth Putnam; sisters, Agnes Putnam, Theda Byrd and Juanita Warner. He is survived by five sons, Dr. Bill Putnam (Jackie) of Jacksonville FL., Walter Putnam (Pamela) of Charlotte, Bob Putnam (Sharon) of Cherryville, Harry Putnam (Tanya) of Charlotte, and John Putnam (Anne) of Charlotte; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and sister, Martha Jane Zeitler of Wilmington, NC. An outdoor memorial ser- vice, officiated by Reverend Zack Christy, was held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:30 AM on the front lawn of the First United Methodist Church, 601 North Pink Street, Cherryville, NC with Military honors. NELLIE RUTH LEDFORD TONEY Ellenboro - Nellie Ruth Ledford Toney, 86, died peacefully at home surround- ed by her family. She was born January 21, 1934 to the late Roy Washington Ledford and Winnie Faye Alexander Ledford. NETTIE SUE LEONA MURRAY Nettie Sue Leona Murray, 93, of the Westminister - Pearidge area of Rutherfordton County and recently of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on August 6, 2020 at Testa Hospice in Kings Mountain, NC. She was born in Rutherford County, NC, to the late Joseph Graham and Gertie Cornelia Ensley Freeman and was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter, Gilmer and Bobby Freeman and her sister, Annie Mae Lane. Survivors: Husband of 69 years: James R. Murray, of the home; Daughter: Jeanette Cheshire and hus- band, Lyn, Kings Mountain, NC; Grandchildren: Jena Leigh Kuronya (Luis), James Thomas Marion Gladden (Mancy) and Joseph Anthony Gladden; and Great- Grandchildren: Gavin, Max and Lucy Kuronya. VERA BELLE MAE McCLUNEY DAWKINS Mrs. Vera Belle Mae McCluney Dawkins 91, of Shelby, NC passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 in Shelby, NC. She was born Margaret Brooks, Thelma Hollifield and Inez Connor. She will be missed and is survived by three sons Randy, Tommy and Dale Toney; one daughter Linda Shoup and one sister Reba Toney. She will also be missed by 31 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. The service was held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Gantt's Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Lane, Pastor Paul Toney and Doctor Mack Tester officiat- ing the service. MARY "CHUBBY" JONES WEBBER Mrs. Mary "Chubby" Jones Webber, 72, of Shelby, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC. She was born on November 25, 1947 in Cleveland County, NC to the late John Hubert Jones, Sr. and Eddie Mae Williams Jones. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Webber, Sr.; two sons, Charles Webber and Lawrence "Poochie" Webber, Jr.; a sister, Vera Lou "Lucy" Jones; six brothers, James Jones, Roosevelt Jones, Bobby Dean Jones, John Hubert "Chief" Jones, Henry Lee "Leebone" Jones, Calvin Ricky "Catfish" Jones; her grandparents, Roosevelt and Vera Jones, Dave and Rachel Williams; special friend, Bobby Joe Rankin. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her daugh- ters, Mary Lou "Puddin" Jones and Donna J. Gaston (Bobby) both of Shelby; son, Lamont Webber of Shelby; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Wimbush (Joe) of Hickory, NC and Carolyn Dawkins of Shelby; three brothers, Andrew Jackson "Jay" Jones of Chesapeake, VA, Toney Jones of Lincolnton, and Roger Jones of Atlanta, GA. Eleven grandchildren; nine- teen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grand- children and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. RODNEY DEAN BRIDGES Rodney Dean Bridges, age 66 of Cherryville passed away Friday, August 6, 2020 at Atrium Health, Cleveland. He was born January 21, 1954 to Tressie Wells Bridges of Cherryville and the late JD Bridges, Sr. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Beverly Shumate Bridges; son, Eric Bridges (Crystal); daughters, Angela B. Wilkinson, Buffy B. Ramsey (Dustin), and Erika Clawson Sigmon (David); brother, JD Bridges Jr.; sister, Peggy Bridges Schronce (Larry); grandkids, Matt Bridges, Alex Bridges, Lauren Bridges, Ethan Woods, Mason Ramsey, Austin Wilkinson, Cain Wilkinson, Emma Grace Sigmon, and newborn great grandbaby born August 6, Colin Slade Wilkinson. BOBBY DEAN DIXON Bobby Dean Dixon, 74, of Old Belwood Road, Lawndale, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2020 at Carolinas Medical Center - Main in Charlotte. Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 3, 1946, he was the son of the late Paul Dixon and Alva Dixon. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Leslea S. Dixon; two sons, Bobby Michael Dixon of Hendersonville and Danny Lutz Dixon of Canada; a brother, Daniel Guy Dixon of Gastonia and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date. Johnny Claude Browner, Jr., 80, of 1820 Green Valley Drive Shelby, NC passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby, NC. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on July 29, 1940 to the late Johnny Claude Browner, Sr. and Mary Vergie Lene London Borders. A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Pauline Williams McGee. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Bobby Fox.
