Roy was born on October 29, 1947 in Harrison County, Kentucky a son of the late Richard Anness and Inez Tilton Anness. Roy served our country in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda Link Anness of the home; two sons, Dean Anness of Cherryville and Willie Anness of Inman, SC; a daughter Tracy Anness of Cherryville; a grandson who was like a son, Andrew Anness; a sister Wanda Woolums of Kentucky; four brothers, Richard Anness, Marlin Anness and James Anness all of Kentucky and John Anness of Florida; special friends Derrick and Melanie Fairchild of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and five grandchildren. He was born on May 1, 1935 in Rutherford County, NC to the late James Newton Simmons, Sr. and Ella Dalton Simmons. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bruce Simmons.
