How much do you think a glass of water weighs? Just take a guess based on a glass in your cabinet. We're not going to be too particular about the glass. So what did you guess? How many ounces? The absolute weight of that glass of water really doesn't matter. Its relative weight depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, no prob- lem. If I hold it for an hour, I'm going to have a cramp in my arm. If I hold it for a day, dial 9-1-1 because I'm hurting. It's the same weight each time, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. Your burdens, your problems, your challenges in life are the same way. If you carry them, by yourself, all the time, they become increasingly heavier and pretty soon you won't be able to go on. You have to put your burdens down for a while and rest if you want to continue in life without dialing 9-1-1. Refreshed you can go on. So Live Positive today by putting down your burdens and handing them to the people around you who love you. Let them help you make a life worth living. ©CommunityFirstMedia •All Wood Kitchen •All Wood Kitchen Cabinets Cabinets (No Particle Board) (No Particle Board) •Counter Tops •Counter Tops •Cabinet Plywood •Cabinet Plywood •Storage Buildings •Storage Buildings •Roofing Shingles •Roofing Shingles •Masonite Siding •Masonite Siding •Chicken Coops •Chicken Coops •All Wood Bathroom Vanities •All Wood Bathroom Vanities •Dog Houses •Gazebos •Dog Houses •Gazebos •Doors • Floor Covering •Doors • Floor Covering •Concrete Steps •Concrete Steps HOURS: Mon.-Fri. 8:30-5:30 • Sat. 8:30-Noon 704-482-7431 704-482-7431 www.roundupshelby.com www.roundupshelby.com 1610 E. Throughout scripture, "The just shall live by faith" is mentioned in Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, and Hebrews 10:38. Faith is the foundation of Christian life. We must believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as Savior and Lord, in order to have a relationship with God. Then we must walk in faith in every area of life. I wrote the following poem about faith. I hope you enjoy the poem and then review the prin- ciples that follow it. "FAITH" Faith is the assurance of things we desire. It moves mountains and takes us higher. It is the proof of things we do not see. It's the conviction of their reality. Faith has a track record of victory and success. It will shield from heartache, anxiety, and distress. Faith caused barren women to conceive. The dead were resurrected for those who believed. They subdued kingdoms and became re- sistless in fight, Stopped the mouth of lions, and turned armies to flight. They administered justice and promises were obtained. They escaped the edge of the sword and fires were contained. To please God - faith is the only way. And He rewards those who diligently seek his face. FAITH PRINCIPLES • Faith pleases God. "And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." - Hebrews 11:6 • Faith is a protective shield. "In all cir- cumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one." - Ephesians 6:16 • Love should be the foundation of faith. "If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove moun- tains, but do not have love, I am nothing." - 1 Corinthians 13:2 • Faith requires action. "But someone will say, "One person has faith, another has actions." My answer is, "Show me how anyone can have faith without ac- tions. I will show you my faith by my ac- tions." - James 2:18 • Faith focuses on God and his prom- ises in the Bible and not the circumstance. "For we walk by faith, not by sight." - Cor- inthians 5:7 • Increase your faith by meditating on the Word. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." - Romans 10:17 PRAY THIS PRAYER: "I love you, Father. I enjoy spending time with you and resting in your love. Forgive me for doubt and unbelief. I want to be a person of strong faith, that pleases you. Help me to trust in you with all my heart and not to depend on my own un- derstanding. I know your thoughts are higher than mine. I want to have a stead- fast reliance on you and have unwavering confidence in your power, wisdom, and goodness. In Jesus' name - Amen." I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 Technology has transformed nearly all facets of life, includ- ing education. While desks and blackboards can still be found in the classroom, technology has become more and more influ- ential in regard to how students learn. Many teachers now employ tablets and other devices to help students better understand their coursework. Devices can make for useful learning tools, but when does screen time cross over from useful learn- ing tool to something that's potentially harmful to students' overall health? The American Academy of Pediatrics has pro- duced age-specific guidelines that can help parents determine if their school-aged children are spending too much time staring at screens. Children between two and five years of age Parents should limit screen time for this age group to one hour per day of high-quality pro- grams. The AAP advises par- ents to co-view with children in this age group so they can help kids understand what they're watching and how it applies to the world around them. Children ages six and older The AAP does not provide specific information regarding how many hours children ages six and older should use screen media. However, the AAP ad- vises parents to make sure such media does not take the place of adequate sleep, physical activity and other behaviors essential to health. In addition to following AAP recommendations about screen time as closely as possible, par- ents can take steps to ensure their children are not spending too much time using their de- vices. • Promote extracurricular activities. Urging children to participate in extracurricular activities that do not employ screen media, such as sports, music lessons and academic clubs, can be a great way to get kids to put down their devices and engage in in-person inter- actions with their peers. • Establish no-device hours at home. The AAP recommends that parents designate certain times of the day as media-free times for the whole family, and not just children. Parents can put down their smartphones and tablets and engage with their children without the television on. In addition, make sure de- vices don't make it to the dinner table, as nightly, device-free din- ners together can help families build strong bonds. • Establish media-free zones. Designate certain areas of the home, such as the kitchen and dining room, as device-free zones. Keep devices out of bedrooms unless children need them to do their homework. Devices in the classroom can help young students fulfill their academic potential. Par- ents can govern their use out- side the classroom by adhering to some simple strategies. How parents can govern screen time
