He is predeceased by his spouse, Linda Sue McCosh; par- ents, Paul and Alma Gamble McCosh. John leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughter, Tara Halderman; step-son, William Nance (Margaret); step-son, Thomas Nance; grandchildren, Shane Halderman, Sara Halderman, Shawn Halderman, Kaitlynn Halderman, Meg Nance, Courtney Nance, Phillip Nance; many brothers and sisters. John worked as a Press Operator for the Observer Newspaper for most of his life. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, the ocean and living life to the fullest. He will be forever missed. Services will be held at a later date. RICHARD LEE NEWTON MOORESBORO - Richard Lee Newton, age 59, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at his home. He is pre- deceased by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Ollie Newton; maternal grandpar- ents, Addie and Addie Dale Pack; sister, Donna Newton. Richard leaves behind to cherish his memories his parents, Charles and Betty Newton; three sisters, Wanda Reese (Loney Dellinger), Deb and Crematory with Dr. Danny West and Rev. Paul McManus officiating. The family will received friends following the service. Rev. Randy Blanton is officiating. Burial was at Cleveland Memorial Park. FRED EUGENE FALLS Fred Eugene Falls, born February 3, 1941 made his debut at the pearly gates on July 19, 2020. Gene, or "Crusher" as so many knew him, was the beloved son of Dr. Fred Falls and Anna Lee Elmore Falls, and brother to Richard Elmore ("Dicky") Falls. He served as director of the Trust Division of Southern Bank, and also as a trust and wealth advisor at C&S Bank, BB&T, and First Citizen's Bank. He is survived by his wife, Susan Powell, and his children Susan Elizabeth Falls (Dare Dukes) of Savannah, Ga., Katherine Falls Mengedoht of Charleston, SC, and Lee Chapman Falls of Charleston, SC, as well as his grandchil- dren Daniel Edward ("Teddy") Mengedoht, Henry Chapman ("Hank") Mengedoht, Zimri ("Zim") Falls Dukes, Georgia Fair Mengedoht, and Tallulah Painter Dukes. He is also sur- vived by his niece Suzanna Powell Greer (Jason Greer) and nephew Benjamin Gray Powell. A graveside service offici- ated by Dr. Mark Barden was at Sunset Cemetery. Guest Registry is available at www.cecilmburtonfuneral- home.com CARL BROOKS ARMSTRONG Carl Brooks Armstrong, 75, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on July 21, 2020 at Testa Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC. He was born in Sumter, SC, to the late Brooks and Theda Horlacher Armstrong and was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Brown. Carl was a long time mem- ber of Patterson Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He worked in the snack food sales industry for thirty-five years. He was a loving husband, father, "Gramps" and friend who will be missed greatly. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Carolyn Wright Armstrong, of the home; a daughter Karen Brown and husband Roger, Mooresville, NC; a sister: Mary Sue Faircloth, Soperton, GA; and grandchildren Joshua, Hannah and Karah Brown A graveside service was held in Patterson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend, Dr. Tim Hendrick officiating. Robert Mote officiating. THOMAS "TOM" CARMAL DUNCAN Thomas "Tom" Carmal Duncan age 74, passed away on July 20, 2020 at his home. Born in McDowell County on July 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Adam Carmal and Sarah Jane Randolph Duncan. Tom was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Tom was a business owner and owned sev- eral businesses in Cleveland County. He attended Gardner Webb University studying Business Administration. Tom was an avid golfer and softball player. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Early; a brother, Rev. Ned Duncan. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Lewis Duncan; a daughter, Molly Blanton and husband Kevin of Shelby; two grandchildren, Adeline Powell, and husband Aaron of Shelby, Nicolas Blanton of Shelby; and his feline companion, "Oreo" Funeral service was held at Cecil M. LINDSEY MEGAN CARPENTER Lindsey Megan Carpenter of Kings Mountain, NC died peacefully at Levine Dickson Hospice House on Friday, July 17, 2020 in Huntersville, NC at the age of 33. Lindsey is survived by her mother Vonda Carpenter, sis- ter Kaitlyn Carpenter, grand- father Bill Foster, and grand- mother Elizabeth Carpenter of Kings Mountain, NC, as well as father and step-moth- er Greg and Tammy Hawes, and brother Noah Hawes of Concord, NC. She is preceded in death by her dad George Carpenter and grandmother Brenda Foster. Lindsey was born on February 12, 1987 in Gastonia, NC to Vonda Carpenter and Greg Hawes, and was later adopted by her Dad George Carpenter. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May of 2018 with her doctorate of nursing practice. She began working for Pinnacle Point Supportive Services, LLC as a doctor of psychiatric nursing practice and as the company's medical director. Lindsey was an avid Carolina Tarheels fan and celebrated many victories on Franklin St. She attended football and bas- ketball games regularly. Her knowledge was not just helpful in her academic pursuits, she also frequently won at trivia nights and game nights. A Celebration of life service was held at Second Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. KATHRYN JANE GRAYSON PARTLOWE Kathryn Jane Grayson Partlowe, age 74, passed peacefully away on July 21, 2020. Born in Fairfield, CA on October 31, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Howard R. Grayson and Connie Billalon Grayson. She was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the Choir, and managed the Food Distribution Ministry. Kathy loved working with her hands, making crafts, jewelry and other items. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne Michelle Partlowe. Kathy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dan Partlowe of Shelby, two sons; Tim Partlowe of Chandler, AZ and Jeremy Partlowe, of Shelby, one sister, Caron Jenson of St. George, UT, and one granddaughter, Kira Partlowe of Chandler, AZ, her Sulphur Springs UMC family and Happy Hands.
