Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. Fear over Faith This last week we watched VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning wor- ship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bible school at 10 :30 a.m.; evening worship at 6:30 p.m., lesson study: Practical Christianity. You are welcome to take part in these services. Grace "I ain't what I ought to be, and I ain't what I'm gonna be, but I sure ain't what I was," testified a sincere brother in a prayer meeting. Paul felt this way, too, al- though he said it different- ly, "By the grace of God I am what I am." Because He lives. John Manges, Minister WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister as what was a viral disease turn into a global pandem- ic. We watched as a nation turned to the shelves and panic shop, ridding the su- permarkets of toilet paper, and I wonder what would have happened if we instead fervently hit our knees in prayer. Sunday, our pres- ident called for a day of prayer. But my encourage- ment is to continue to pray over this virus, pray over those infected and effected, pray for our healthcare work- ers who are vulnerable to this virus as they treat those with it. This virus does not surprise me, global history has already shown us worse, but the world will turn to the church in a time like this. Therefore, our sense of peace or panic will be seen and will be influential. Our panic will be the world's panic, but our peace will be- come the world's peace. If I could share one piece of en- couragement from my ser- mon this last week, I would say during this time, learn to have an eternal perspective. Remember that Jesus holds our tomorrow, and that no matter what this virus may turn into his kingdom has no end. Be wise, love your neighbor by no purposeful- ly putting yourself or them in a vulnerable position. "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." In Matthew 12:50, Jesus offers believers an adop- tion into His family. In a world where children are being killed by their par- ents for just being possible, adoption is a prize. Being cho- sen by someone who wants the responsibility of our care is a blessing. Being chosen in this way by God should tug at our hearts and make us want to serve Him faithfully. We are called to love everyone and encourage them as potential brothers and sisters in Christ to want to belong to the fami- ly. In this way we are helping others choose to be adopted into the family of God. "Without faith no one can please God be- cause the one coming to God must believe He exists, and He rewards those who come seeking"(Hebrews 11:6). Or maybe you've found that per- fect peace that only God can give. "My peace is the lega- cy I leave to you. I don't give gifts like those of this world. Do not let your heart be trou- bled or fearful"( John 14:27). It is written, "Man does not live by bread alone. Rather, he lives on every word that comes from the mouth of the Eternal One" (Matthew 4:4). A walk through the grocery/depart- ment store today will bring the observer to the realiza- tion that our society is on high alert. We are prepared for the coronavirus. We have our shelves stocked with toi- let paper, Lysol, bottled wa- ter, extra food; and we have quarantined ourselves in our houses. We are ready. But are we really? Jesus warned us to be ready for his soon return. Have you made preparation for the rapture? Is every sin covered by the blood of Jesus? Is your house set in order? Are your tithes all paid? Are you walking in all the gospel light that you have? If you cannot answer yes to all of these ques- tions, you are not ready at all! You can be prepared for eter- nity even when you are sick, but if your heart is blemished with sin, you can escape ev- ery virus and spend eternity in hell. Be ye ready! Hope Barnett, Repvorter SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 11505 N. Hwy. 61 Spurgeon Pastor Cell 812-202- 8903 or church office 812-922-8215 Church service 9 a.m.; Sun- day school 10 a.m.; Friday Bi- ble study at 1 p.m. Today's Reading: Romans 12:9 -16. "Rejoice with those who re- joice; mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15). The church, the family of God, is where all of life can be shared—the good and not-so-good. The New Tes- tament words "one another" are used to capture our in- terdependence. "Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Live in harmony with one an- other" (Romans 12:10 -16). The extent of our connected- ness is expressed in verse 15. "Rejoice with those who re- joice; mourn with those who mourn." While the depth and scope of our pain may pale in com- parison with those affected by genocide, it's nonetheless per- sonal and real. And, as with the pain of Mary, because of what God has done for us it can be embraced and shared for the comfort and good of others. When have you allowed someone else to share your sorrow? How does the body of Christ and the church, help you deal with the hard times in life? "Gracious God, forgive me for my reluctance to enter the pain of others. Help me to live more fully as a connect- ed member of your church"— Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. SR 56 Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday morning worship 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in cha- os. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righ- teousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that passes all understanding—He is in con- trol. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney.
