Stam God's word is needed Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin See R AMBLINGS on 3 Continued on page 2 `In the forty years of my ministry I have seen many people approach death and have seen some die. Some, who knew Christ as their Savior, were ready, even eager, to go to be with Him. Some passed from this scene with songs or words of praise on their lips. Others, who had failed to prepare, died in mortal fear, not merely of death, but of what lies beyond. These things do not always run true to form, however, for I have also seen the most hardened unbelievers go out of this life jok- ing and seemingly unafraid, while, on the other hand, I have seen sincere Christians cringe with fear at the approach of death. These human reactions did not change the fact that the unbelievers had reason to be afraid, while the believers need not have feared. The Word of God tells us that "it is ap- pointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Heb. 9:27,28). It is the "after this" that makes men so afraid to die. They fear the truth of Rom. 14:12, that "every one of us shall give account of Himself to God." But wait: we did not quote all of Heb. 9:27,28. The full passage reads as follows: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment; so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time apart from sin, un- to salvation." This can mean only one thing: that Christ died for us and bore the judgment for our sins, the "second death." This is why Heb. 2:9 -15 declares that "by the grace of God" Christ "tasted death for every man… that through [His] death He might… deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." In a mixed up, troubled world Christians must continue sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To be Christian one feels the need to share Christ and fulfill the great commis- sion of Christ. If you listen to some politi- cians, elite media and liberal religious lead- ers' one would not seek to convert Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and other non-Chris- tians. Those who know Christ cannot stop witnessing in His name. There has always been persecution when Christians have boldly sought to win oth- ers to faith in Christ. In America there is a growing hostility toward true Christianity. In America it is becoming intolerant and un- loving to tell someone that without Christ they will spend eternity in hell. One cannot be Christian without believing that Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Christ is the only way to heaven. This is a fact Christians must never forsake or de- ny. This 21st Centu- ry is a time for Chris- tians to be bold and courageous. In America, Christianity is separate from our government. It should influence our leaders that Christianity is an eternal king- dom. There has been so much said about it you can't seem to listen to any news station and not find out something new. It is good to be in- formed but it is another thing to panic the population to the point of every man for his own family. We are told in the Bible to prefer one an- other in love but to see the grocery shelves as bare as they have become and reports of fighting over toilet paper has reached new lows. What could anyone do with all the toi- let paper that has gone out of the stores to be hoarded up? I hope and pray we don't see the virus strike our area. But it could and if it does I pray we try to help not treat them badl. It looks as though we would be afraid of them. Our Lord regarded His followers as a select com- pany who belonged to a different world from the rest of humanity. Many of the religious people of His day were worldly and non- spiritual, publicly parading their religion to impress others while privately dom- inated by pride, ambition, greed and falsehood. Je- sus told His disciples they could not make their light shine by sinking to the world's low level. It was on- ly by aiding in Christ, and in Christ and living under the ruling power of His Holy Spirit that they could rise above the world. Only in that way could they be salt and light to a decaying and darkened world. Our influence on society depends on our likeness to Jesus Christ. We cannot el- evate others higher than we yourselves have gone. The first century Chris- tians out-thought, out-lived and out-loved their neigh- bors, and by their exam- ple of purity and compas- sion attracted countless thousands to the Christian faith.
