So we will see what happens toward the end of March. I think we had some pretty conditions the first of this month, so it could be a little rough before long. The COVID-19 virus has things in a turmoil as lots of people are starting to panic about running out of things and not being able to leave their homes because of either having it or afraid of getting it. They are telling us to do the same thing we have heard over and over: wash your hands and limit the distance between you and others to six feet. If you feel sick, then please stay away from others and keep yourself as comfortable as possible so you can get over your ailment. It sounds as though this virus is a respiratory in- fection and can make it bad on those who have an underlying condition, which could make you susceptible to worse conditions. Just be careful and let us ride this thing out. The DSL played and entertained last Mon- day at River Walk assisted living complex. Peo- ple ask us where is River Walk? It is across the street from the downtown Deaconess medi- cal clinic and it used to be Welborn Hospital. It has six floors and many rooms for the resi- dents of this home. The people come from all over the building to hear us and we try not to disappoint them. We have been trying to add a new song or two each month. Wes Capehart has been playing along with us this month. He has a couple of songs he likes and they are really good. I like his singing of Paradise. It is a little community on the Green River which per- ished with the coal mines. It reminded me of Simms Ville as we knew it. It and the sur- rounding area are gone as they mined for coal. We need the coal, but lots of memories have been swallowed up by progress. I had two doctor appointments last week and my blood work was good, and it looks as though everything is working for right now. My blood work can't tell us about my liver's condition, but it can tell you that by the num- bers it is at least working, which is good news to me. I still think I have too many appoint- ments, but they seem to be keeping me going, so I suppose they are worth keeping. My wife has been trying to get me to take our shower doors down around our bathtub because we seldom shower there, as we use our built-in shower, so we really didn't need them. The silicone caulk which sealed the bot- tom track was set up so hard, we worked about all day trying to get it down to the tub. I have been thinking about getting one of those walk- in tubs because of the water jets in them and it would be easier to take a bath also if you desired. They make them look tempting and pleasant. It sounds like a small hot tub. This wind we have been having would sure make a kite fly high if it didn't turn the kite wrong side out. I haven't went out too much in the wind because being retired means there is little reason to get out in it if you don't have to. Maybe you could say I'm getting spoiled and soft. I have been doing my exercises and practicing on my music. People are still ask- ing when Mr. Banjo is coming out? Trust me, it is getting closer. My neighbor even said he is waiting for me to practice outside so he can hear it. He might have to go back in once I start. We set our clocks up an hour Saturday night and Sunday morning just didn't feel right. It's amazing how such a short period of time can mess with your mind and body. I can remem- ber when a power nap at work would allow you a burst of energy to finish your shift. I wonder if a power nap might be in order this afternoon. Make the best of the time because we should definitely have more daylight in the evenings, so one trade off for another. Got up Sunday and, as I said before, grog- giness was the plan of the day and as I was getting ready to brush my teeth, a crown just came off my tooth. I was looking in the mir- ror flossing and there was something shiny laying on my tongue. We'll see what the den- tist can do with it when I get the opportunity to get into his office. It doesn't look like there is any damage to crown or tooth, so maybe he The Bible remains the world's best-selling book. There is no book that has influenced America like the Bible. It is loved and read by millions throughout the world. Strange- ly, it never appears on the best sellers' list al- though no other book has sold as many cop- ies. At least 90 percent of the American peo- ple read it occasionally and many read it daily. More than 450 translations of the Bible into English have been written. Today there are study Bibles, paraphrases, new translations and formats every few years. The two most popular versions are The New Internation- al Version and the King James Version. The Living Bible is a paraphrase written in every- day language. One can read through the Bi- ble each year by spending about 20 minutes a day. My wife has read the Bible through faithfully for many years. According to the American Bible Society, the complete Bible has been published in 698 languages and the New Testament in 1548. There is a new bat- tle over the Bible as liberal theologians seek to re-engineer society and to make the Bible gender free and politically cor- rect. This is a danger- ous trend and should be opposed by Chris- tian people. The Bi- ble is very clear re- garding issues like abortion, homosexuality and cohabitation. Many seeker-sensitive pas- tors want sin to be less sinful and to make it easy for church members to fit into many of the evils in our culture. All true evangelicals believe the Bible makes a clear distinction between men and women. Christians must stand firm against all efforts to change the Word of God. In a world of chaos and fear on- ly the Bible gives hope. Jesus said, "On the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; for by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned" (Matthew 12:36, NRSV ). How often do we speak quickly, without giving thought to the impact of our words? Do we really under- stand how powerful our words really are? Let us resolve dai- ly to use words of praise and encouragement, forgiveness and love. Remember to pray daily for those in need, whether it be illness, loss or need of for- giveness.
