Women's Cancer Support Group–The Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center offers a support group for women who have had cancer of any type or are currently undergoing can- cer treatment. Perinatal Loss Support–Expectant parents who suddenly lose their child often experience a wide range of emotions and grief. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center offers "Perinatal Loss Support" to assist those who have experienced the loss of a child (con- ception to one month of age) through the grieving pro- cess, and provide an atmosphere of confidentiality and comfort. Your Health and Diabetes Education – The topic for the November class is "Holiday Eating for those with Diabetes." This support group is held the third Monday of each month and provides knowledge to help you feel more secure, manage problems, and avoid hospitaliza- tion for diabetes-related issues. The next class will be on Tuesdays, December 3 and 10 from 5:30 –9:30 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Classroom at Memorial South- side Office, 1100 West 12th Avenue in Jasper. In order to complete the course and receive a course completion card, participants must pass a written first aid test and successfully complete a skills evaluation in CP T and AED. Pre-registration is required, as class size is limited. Cost is $ 85 and the class requires pre-payment. Expectant parents in the last trimester are invited to attend Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center's "Baby Behavior" class held on Wednesday, December 4, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The class will teach parents about things such as infant sleep, feeding cues, engagement and disengagement cues, and crying. It is highly recommended parents take this class before the baby arrives. However, if parents are unable to, this class can be helpful for parents within the first 1-2 months of the baby being born as well. This class is being held in the Board Conference Room B/C, located on the lower level of the LCM Tow- er, at Memorial Hospital, 800 West 9th Street in Jasper. WINSLOW SPELL BOWL TEAM PRACTICE Salvation Army bell ringers needed Snow is flying, heat bills are rising for those in need, and the Pike/Gib- son Salvation Army is looking for bell ringer volunteers in Petersburg. Join the tradition that started in 1891. If you would like to ring, please contact Cal Biddle, (812) 582-2385. Times are available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Petersburg Dollar Gener- al on Fridays and Saturdays, Novem- ber 29, through December 21. Also, you could ring at Petersburg Hard- ware from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. All money raised stays in Pike and Gib- son counties. Utility and rent bills were paid through Salvation Army to keep peo- ple in their homes, and emergency housing and clothing were provided. Hundreds of nutritious meals were served each week especially when children were out of school. "Countless boys and girls are able to celebrate Christmas through the Salvation Army Toy Shop. Remember it was the Salvation Army who came early and stayed late during the Pe- tersburg Tornado. They helped us during our time of need. Volunteer at least a couple of hours to help Pike Co. people in need," said Biddle. He added, "Many people ring for two hours at a time. Some like to ring with a friend. Families also take a couple hours to share the joy of serv- ing others with their children. Some churches and school groups take an entire day. Some sing Christmas car- ols or play an instrument. So check the dates and call me. Your volun- teering helps families have a Merry Christmas." Meadors appointed Petersburg reserve officer Petersburg Mayor R. C. Klipsch and Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Baumgart issue the oath of office to Briar Meadors who was appointed a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Petersburg on Monday night during the meeting. Briar is the son of former Sheriff Todd Meadors. "I remember when we hired your father," said Peters- burg City Council member Fran Lewis.
