The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, November 20, 2019 B- 3 Lady Chargers walk into a buzzsaw at South Knox By Dennis Marshall Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net The Pike Central girls' basketball team is still trying to shake off the off- season rust. The Lady Chargers (0 -2) lost a lop- sided contest, 53-18, at South Knox to the Lady Spartans (3-1) on Friday, Nov. 15. "We struggled getting into our of- fense with South Knox ball pres- sure and we were rushing things all night," Pike Central head coach Kyle Mccutchan said. "It is something we struggled with against Reitz as well, so it is something we have to continue to get better at." South Knox fired out of the gates and led 21-5 after the first quarter. A scoreless second quarter put Pike Cen- tral in a 36 -5 halftime hole. The Lady Chargers settled down and played better in the second half, and were outscored just 17 to 13. "The girls are playing and work- ing hard and we hope our play in prac- tice will carry over to our games," Mc- Cutchan said. The Lady Spartans are currently un- ranked, but are one of the other teams receiving votes in the latest Indiana Coaches of Girls' Sports Association Class 2A Poll. Jaylyn Nelson led Pike Central with five points. Kailee Mann and Mallory Hunt each scored four, Kenzie Powell had three and Mallory Hickey finished with two. Pike Central is scheduled to host Vincennes Lincoln (2-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Then they're on the road at Wood Memorial (1-1) on Friday, Nov. 22, and back at home on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Tell City (1-4).
