C-2 Church Wednesday, November 20, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY Baptist Continued on page 3 Continued in next column I believe that those who do not appreciate Hound Song are just jealous be- cause their dogs can't do it. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a laid back young Hound dog named Vin- son, who is already getting in the Christmas spirit. He has been singing Christ- mas carols in the dog room at PAWS. Vinson is a very posi- tive fellow and has been encouraging all his fel- low canines at PAWS by wishing that they all find good homes by Christmas Day. He is a lap dog wan- na be, with short, soft fur that is red and black. He has a robust build, a very merry personality, has all his shots, is neutered and heartworm negative. To adopt this fine fellow, call 812-354-9894. "The Power and the Prom- ises—When you've grown into a faith that constant- ly seeks the Lord, then He instinctively becomes your refuge in the times of trou- ble. You've come to know the comfort of His pres- ence and His guidance in your small and great deci- sions. Your faith has grown, and you trust Him to remain the same constant source of life and light to guide you to the end. His power and His promises become the guid- ing forces in your life. "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perse- verance, and to persever- ance, godliness; and to god- liness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these quali- ties in increasing measure, they will keep you from inef- fective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (II Peter 5 -8). Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and wor- ship service and the Lord's Supper at 10 :30 a.m. When I first moved to Pe- tersburg from Atlanta, I had to get used to a lot of new things. One of them was learning my destinations. I learned there weren't a lot of signs, especially on I-69, so I started paying attention to things that marked my route, to know where I was, to judge how far I was. This became especially handy on my way home. You see, it's easy when you drive for a while to just look ahead, and loose track. You start thinking about different things, what you need to do, the people you need to see, and if you aren't paying at- tention, you might just miss where you are going. A cou- ple of times, not paying at- tention I missed the Peters- burg exit, and I was halfway to Washington. But then, I started looking for things to judge where I was. The smokestacks became espe- cially helpful. When I saw the billows of smoke rising into the air, day or night, I knew Pike County was close, my Petersburg exit was approaching. The Psalmist writes this about God's word, that is scripture; "your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path" (119:105).
