It seemed like deja vu, but the Chargers allowed the Rebels to recover the en- suing kickoff when no one fielded the kick, again. South Spencer added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to go in- to halftime leading 55 -6. "It's Tuesday and I still don't know what's going on [with those kick returns]," Stephens said. "Our kids ran away from it. They know what they're supposed to do. They know it's a live ball. We talked about and we actual- ly employee that strategy where we try to pop up kick. "There is no excuse oth- er than players made a poor play. There is no excuse for it at all. It was very demor- alizing for our team. I wish it wasn't that way, but that's just the truth of what it was." If there is a silver lining to this game, it's that the team played a much closer send- off half with South Spencer edging Pike Central 7-6. "It was nice to see them come out and execute in the second half against those guys, where we are kind of more on even footing with the age of our players," Ste- phens said. "I felt like we didn't mail it in after half- time. We were able to regain our focus and come out and play hard. There was some positive things we were able to do with tempo moving the ball. So I was happy to see that." Frasure added another touchdown run in the sec- ond half. He finished the game with 50 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He was also all over the field on de- fense, making a team-high 12 tackles. "I love Wyatt and the way he plays," Stephens said. "He runs the ball hard. He's not always in the right spot on defense, but he gets there with maximum effort. He has a world of talent. As we mature as an offensive line and unit, I'm excited about what the future holds for that young man." Things aren't going to get any easier for the Chargers the rest of the season, with three very talented oppo- nents left on the schedule. Pike Central will host Gib- son Southern on Friday, Oct. 4 at Weathers Field. The Ti- tans are ranked No. 8 in Class 3A in the latest Indi- ana Football Coaches Asso- ciation Poll. STATEMENT Continued from page 1 Pike Central set to host No. 8 Gibson Southern By Dennis Marshall Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net The Pike Central foot- ball team has the tall task of hosting Gibson Southern (4-2) Friday, Oct. 4 at Weath- ers Field. The Titans are ranked No. 8 in Class 3A in the latest In- diana Football Coaches As- sociation Poll and have one of the top signal callers in the Class of 2020 in Brady Allen. The 6 -foot-5 -inch, 196 -pound sophomore quarterback is one of the most highly recruited play- ers from the area in recent memory. He has already re- ceived offers from Cincinna- ti, Indiana, Purdue and Vir- ginia Tech. It might be the worst pos- sible time to play the Titans as well, considering the team had a running clock put on them in a 42-14 loss to Heritage Hills (6 -0) this past Friday. "They are very talented and prideful team," Pike Central head coach Dave Stephens said. "They do have some youth at some certain spots. The quarter- back position, the dude is all-world, but he's a young guy." Allen is currently sixth in the state with 1,615 passing yards. He has the fifth most touchdown passes at 19 and has thrown just five inter- ceptions, while competing 65 percent of his attempts. The Titans have a lot of weapons for Allen to go to in the passing game. They have five players with over 150 yards receiving. Seth Delong has 20 receptions for 518 yards and eight touchdowns, Logan Murf - in has made 16 catches for 342 yards and three touch- downs, Adam May has 20 re- ceptions for 251 yards and five touchdowns, Mitchell Spindler has 14 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown and Ben Butler has 19 catch- es for 154 yards. Karen Hur- less and Caleb Sellers have also hauled in touchdown garbs for Gibson Southern this season. Spindler is also a danger- ous runner. He's ran the ball 89 times for 534 yards and 10 touchdowns. Owen Bryant and Ben Luttrell have rushed 26 times for 258 yards and 17 times for 114 yards, respec- tively. Each have ran for two touchdowns this season. Max Beadles and Carter Green led the Titans' de- fense. Beadles has made 60 total tackles, while Green has 49 total tackles and two sacks. Colton Stefanich has made three interceptions, while making 32 total tack- les and a sack. Stephens said he has high regard for Titans' head coach Nick Hart, the Gibson Southern program and the way they conduct their busi- ness. "There is a lot to respect with the way they do things there," he said. "We are go- ing to do what we can do and that's focus on us. We are going to focus on the things we need to do. The next two weeks we really want to make sure that we are cleaning up the things that we want to be good at. "We don't decide who gets put in front of us. We can't control our opponent, but we can control our effort level, how we prepare and what we do. It is what it is at this point. We are going to keep plugging away and do the best we can to make im- provements." Pike Central freshman Jaggar Dent makes a tackle on Friday, Sept. 27, at Weathers Field. "We absolutely needed this as a team to get us back in the right head space. Our communica- tion was a lot better and our passing was more accurate so we were able to hit the ball a lot." "The A Team came out strong in the first set with great serving from Tayrn Fis- cus, Heidi Woodford and Jaelee Loveless," Pike Central sixth- grade coach Stephanie Shedd said. "Everyone continued to play excellent with great serv- ing and passing all around. Sydney Burdette served five great serves and Lila Taylor, just coming back from an inju- ry, served three over with one ace. They came ready to play and worked as a team." The B-Team won 25 -8 and 25 -14. "The B Team also played ex- ceptionally well," Shedd said. "It was a team effort. Emily McGillem played a solid game with great passing and had a positive attitude. Alexis Boyd had an amazing night, serv- ing seven over with one ace. She also moved on the court very well and had some great passes. "Both teams did great. They came off the weekend and played outstanding on a Mon- day, which is hard to do." PCMS Continued from page 4
