DONALD GROSS Donald Gross, 86, of Winslow, entered rest on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Joel Wilhite, in Oakland City. He was born on Oct.25, 1932 in Petersburg, to Crodel and Noma "Fren- tress"Gross Weisheit. He married Donna Belle Hamm on Dec. 3, 1954. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a mem- ber of Winslow Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He retired from Old Ben Coal Company and was a mem- ber of U.M.W.A local 5179. Also, he was a member of Brenton Chapel Church of Christ. A fter retirement, he enjoyed several years of fish- ing with friends. He will be remembered for his stories and laughter many of them brought. He is survived by daugh- ters, Debbi (Dan) Rodden, of Buffalo, Ill., and Kathy ( Joel) Wilhite, of Oakland City; a sister, Helen Onyett, of Petersburg; 10 grandchil- dren; 11 great-grandchil- dren; and one great-great- grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Don- na Belle Gross; sons, Paul (P.K.) and David Gross; siblings, Velma, Lloyd, Joe Gross, Dorothy (Fields), Crillis and Marvin Gross. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. CDT on Tues- day Oct. 1, 2019, at Pleas- ant Ridge Cemetery near Winslow. Family has entrusted Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel for personal assis- tance. Family and friends may send messages of com- fort to www.lambbasham. com. JOSEPH LEE MOSBY Joseph Lee Mosby, 89, of Otwell, passed away on Sep- tember 27, 2019, in Peters- burg. He was born September 25, 1930, in Pike County, to Adolph and Ida (Gilliland) Mosby. He retired from Whirlpool after 39 years. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Jo Fick- lin and Cindy Lynn ( Jim) Clinard; grandchildren, Chris (Skii) Ficklin, Chel- sea (Ben Hicks) Ficklin, Kyle (Renee') Clinard and Jamie (Stephen) Kessen; great-grandchildren, Alys- sa, Ivan, Liesl, Olivia, Ken- dall, Caleb and Ava; and sev- eral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Mos- by; his parents; siblings, Roy, Clarence, Lloyd, Ber- nard, Mildred, Elizabeth, Edna, Vivian and Stella; and son-in-law, Jim Ficklin. A graveside service was at noon on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Walnut Hills Ceme- tery in Petersburg. Visitation was from 10 - 11:45 a.m. EDT on Monday at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg. NANCY SUE (HORRELL) DAVIS Nancy Sue (Horrell) Da- vis, 77, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Petersburg, to the late George and Hilda (Beck) Horrell. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Donnie Davis, on June 20, 1959, and together they were married for 58 years. Donnie preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 2017. She was a graduate of Pe- tersburg High School and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg. She taught Sun- day School for more than 40 years. She is survived by her sons, Joe (Donna) Davis, of Hebron, Ky., Jeff (Chrys- tale) Davis, of Petersburg, Brian (Angie) Davis, of Pe- tersburg; daughter, Penelo- pe (Bruce) Fuhrman, of Rockvale, Tenn.; grandchil- dren, Josh ( Valia) Davis, Morgan (George) Rechtin, Megan ( Josh) Meeks, Jef- frey (Megan) Davis, Ash- ley Davis, Allyson Davis, Cody Davis, Hannah Fuhr- man, Conner Fuhrman, Na- talie Fuhrman and Lucre- tia Miller; great-grandchil- dren, Anechka and Johnston Davis, Madison and Bella Rechtin, Jaxon Dull, Bay- lin and Westin Davis, Gun- ner and Reed Meeks, and Hayden and Hadley Davis; and great-great-grandchild, Jayce Rechtin. The funeral service was at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Punke of- ficiating. Burial followed at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation was from 4- 8 p.m. EDT Friday at the church. Harris Funeral Home is en- trusted with her care. MITCHELL G. HOUCHINS Mitchell G. Houchins, 62, of Petersburg, entered rest on Wednesday Sept. 25, 2019, at his home in Pe- tersburg. He was born on Dec.27, 1956, in Oakland City, to Forrest Dewayne and Wan- da Lee "English" Houchins. He had worked at IPL for 25 years. He is survived by his children, Jason and Steph- anie Houchins, both of Pe- tersburg; his mother, Wan- da Lee English Houchins, of Washington; his brother, Terrell D. (Shelley) Houch- ins, of Washington; his sis- ter, Thessa Wichael, of Fire- stone, Colo.; and two grand- children. He was preceded in death by his father. Services were at noon EDT on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Lamb-Basham Me- morial Chapel, with Rev An- drea Clegg officiating. Buri- al followed in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. He was born August 8, 1957, in Charleston, S.C., to James and Sharron Wheeler. He is survived by his daughters, Jasmine Wheel- er and Nicole Wheeler, of Weisbaden, Germany; sis- ter, Susan ( Jim) Wheel- er, of Petersburg; brother, Troy (Fran) Wheeler, of Tas- well, Ind.; three grandchil- dren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and broth- ers, Michael Wheeler and Terry Don Wheeler. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. PAUL DAVID KENDLE Paul David Kendle, 82, of Francisco, passed away Fri- day, September 27, 2019, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Gibson County, to William Franklin and Mary Alice (Conner) Kendle. He lived in Gibson Coun- ty most of his life. He was a self-employed carpen- ter working part-time, and later full-time, for over 50 years. He had previously worked at Potter and Brum- field. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and wa- ter-skiing. He especially en- joyed spending time with his family doing many of these things, and being with his grandchildren. He also en- joyed quilting. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane Ellen Kend- le, of Francisco; three sons, Paul David ( Jayne) Kend- le, Jr., of Benton, Ky., Jef- frey Carl (Gina) Kendle, of Princeton, and Rodney Wil- liam (Tina Marie) Kend- le, of Petersburg; brother, George Kendle, of Evans- ville; two stepsisters, Billie Alvis, of Princeton, and Bev- erly (Don) Clark, of Owens- ville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan- ny Kendle; and sisters, Bar- bara and Helen. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at the Colvin Funer- al Home in Princeton, with Pastor Eddie Gene Martin officiating. Burial will fol- low in the Columbia "White" Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
