Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598 had no postcards or notes this week. Winslow Patoka River is still over its banks and at Riverside Park, the wa- ter was at the bottom of the seats on the tables at the shelterhouse. As of Friday, the 28th, it has gone down a bit to where the floor of the shelterhouse has a covering of water. The beaver and the eskimo are still standing in water and the driveway is covered. We did have lots of rain on the 21st and 23rd, with se- vere storms of rain, wind, thunder and lightning. There were trees down in Winslow that took out a garage, and hooked on- to a power line, tilting the pole, but mostly we had loads of limbs in yards. I saw where Campbelltown had two trees that fell in the yards. All of the Winslow Town was without power from 1:50 p.m.-3:50 p.m. on Friday, the first day of summer, because of a blown transformer south of Winslow. I thought it was just a power surge but after the three surges were over and the power didn't come back on, then I knew it was something else. We were all glad the temp wasn't high and the wind was blowing some air around, so you could leave your windows open. Even for being the first day of summer, the eve- ning to overnight temp was a bit chilly in the 60s. The windows had to be closed or you had to use a quilt to keep warm while sleeping. High temps and that dreaded humidity are back with us for this week again, so keep that wet rag with you and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Over the weekend of last week, Norm got his Father's Day gift from Laura when she came over to the house with Kyana, who has grown taller in the past six months. She is almost as tall as Norm, but she is a head taller than Lau- ra. It was great to see her again and talk about lots of things in her life. At Laura's church, they have begun Celebrate Re- covery every Monday at 6 p.m. with a meal. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the River of Life Fellow- ship, where childcare is provided. They had their first meeting last Monday and four were present. There was a roast fixed one day with all the trim- mings in with it and with some hungry guys, there wasn't anything left but a quart dish, so I guess it must have been good. Well it's time to dim the lights on this week, but keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the beauty around your area. Always smile, wave and say Hi to every- one you see this week.
