C-2 Church Wednesday, July 3, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 Uncle Sam and PAWS Pet of the week, Violet, says practice these 4th of July safety tips, as fire- works scare pets. More pets are lost on this holi- day than any other time of the year. • Keep pets inside. • Turn on the radio or T V to muffle the noise. • Have proper ID on your pet. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a sparky young gal named Violet, who is a sweet, personable gal, is approximately one year old, a medium-size dog, weighs approximately 35 lbs., is a Terrier mix with soft, short fur and white accents on her chest, paws and tail. She is spayed, vet checked, has all her shots and is heartworm negative. To adopt this sweet- heart, call 812-354-9894. "Mighty to save" (Isaiah 63:1). By the words "to save" we understand the whole of the great work of salvation, from the first holy desire onward to complete sancti- fication. The words are mul- tum in parvo: indeed, here is all mercy in one word. Christ is not only "mighty to save" those who repent, but He is able to make men repent. He will carry those to heaven who believe; but He is, moreover, mighty to give men new hearts and to work faith in them. He is mighty to make the man who hates holiness love it, and to constrain the despis- er of His name to bend the knee before Him. Nay, this is not all the meaning, for the divine power is equally seen in the after-work. The life of a believer is a series of miracles wrought by "the Mighty God." The bush burns, but is not consumed. He is mighty to keep His people holy after He has made them so, and to preserve them in his fear and love until he consum- mates their spiritual exis- tence in heaven. Christ's might doth not lie in making a believer and then leaving him to shift for himself; but He who be- gins the good work carries it on; He who imparts the first germ of life in the dead soul, prolongs the divine ex- istence, and strengthens it until it bursts asunder ev- ery bond of sin, and the soul leaps from earth, perfected in glory. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service and the Lord's Sup- per at 10 :30 a.m. This last Sunday was Fa- ther's day, and like Mother's day it is a great time that we have to celebrate some won- derful parents in our lives. Some of us are left to remem- ber the parents we had as they have gone on from this life. However, one thing is for certain that we see now more than ever, many young peo- ple around us have lacked good parents, especially good fathers. The home life now more than ever lacks the presence of good and strong male lead- ership and influence, and ma- ny young men are left grow- ing up without father all to- gether. Now more than ever we need men who will step up to be good fathers. Men who answer Jesus' call to carry their cross, and show those who grow around them how to do the same. Who will be strong men of God, and lead others in doing that. We have a heavenly fa- ther who has given us more than we could ever ask for or imagine, and given us the ability to lead and influ- ence others to experience VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. "Home—The place where the small are great, and the great are small." "Home—The father's kingdom, the mother's world, and the child's para- dise." "Home—The place where we grumble the most and are treated the best." Next week I plan to give the other three that a Lon- don magazine received when asked for definitions of home. Because He lives. John Manges, Minister the same. Let us pray this year that more men would answer the call to not only be fathers but be spiritual fa- thers in place of those who are without a father at all. And pray that a generation would rise to fill in the gaps that we miss now. Everyone welcome. DJ Bryant, Pastor BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N.
