Poplar Street, Petersburg Mullins and Burdette claim firsts By James Capozella Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net A solid first place finish for the 200 medley relay, plus wins in the 100 IM and 50 back by Graham Mullns, togeth- er with a first by Isaac Burdette in the 50 breast, were instrumental for the Pike Central Middle School swimmers to claim a Pocket Athletic Conference championship. Michael Burkhart, Graham Mullins, Isaac Burdette and Draven Readle com- bined for a 2:18.20 clocking and a win- ning start in the PAC championships. Readle took second place points in the 200 free (2:34.83) and Mullins followed it up with a 1:05.92, to come from behind and edge Ranger Eli Berg out of first in the 100 individual medley. Mullins add- ed a big win in the 50 back. The Chargers added points in the next three events, while Heritage Hills strug- gled until the 100 free. Burdette's solid win in the 50 breast, coupled with a sec- ond place finish for Readle, Burkhart, Burdette and Mullins in the 400 free (4:40.56) helped secure the win. The Chargers finished with 264 points to the Patriots 246. Forest Park Middle School placed third (198), South Spen- cer Middle School fourth (170), Tell City Junior High fifth (112), Tecumseh sixth 104 and Southridge seventh(2). Wyatt Luff (80.15), Xander Parker (75.75) and Jayden Bolin (74.75) placed third, fourth and fifth respectively in the one-meter diving event, while Bur- khart contributed fourth place points in the 200 free (2:49.01) and 50 fly (36.86). CHARGERS SPLASH PAST PATRIOTS FOR PAC CHAMPIONSHIP See PAC on page 3 See WHITE on 3 Colton White's switch to OCU is paying off By Kenzie Rudolph Press-Dispatch Sports sports@ pressdispatch.net Colton White, a 2017 Pike Central graduate, is now at Oakland City Uni- versity spending his time on the base- ball field. White started college at Vincennes Univer- sity but made the switch to OCU this year, and it looks like his decision has paid off. He al- so looked at Indiana Wesleyan while col- lege searching, but the long drive from home did not entice him. White remem- bers playing base- ball as far back as he can remember, and he said that he normally played up with the older boys. He started travel ball at age 11, and he just kept on im- proving. He also had an older brother, Bailey, who played baseball as well. White also played soccer, football and basketball growing up, but he said that his heart is in base- ball. When he realized that he had the po- tential to play base- ball in college, he said "I was just hap- py that I could keep playing. Other than that, it didn't really hit me that I would ever be done play- ing baseball, so I just kept playing." In high school, he played shortstop, which is where he can be found on the Oak field this year. He also pitched, which he may get to do in some aspect in college as well. White said that while at Vincennes, he split games with another player and was not playing con- sistently. Now while at OCU, he has start- ed every game. He actually hit his first homerun of the sea- son against Hills- dale this past week. He added that since he commutes to school, it is a lit- tle harder to bond with his teammates, but he said that he is enjoying his time with the rest of the Mighty Oaks. He is currently study- ing the marketing side of business, but he said that he might be switching to the finance side of things.
