There was one postcard in the ol' mailbox at Sweets Column Winslow, Ind. 47598. Postcard # 657 is all in glitter. It is a nighttime postcard with buildings up and down the downtown of Las Vegas. The Golden Nugget has the old miner standing on top wearing his cowboy hat, red neckerchief, a red and yellow checkered shirt, blue jeans and cow- boy boots. Another glittered place is Binion's Horseshoe, the sky is in red, and gold figures with a blue back- ground. This is a Fremont Street Ex- perience that is a must see in Las Ve- gas. It boasts the destination of being the largest "big screen" on the planet. This postcard reads: "Greetings from sunny, warm Las Vegas! I bet you didn't know you have fans all the way out here! Read your column regu- larly! Have yourself a good day! " (then a smiley face). Thank you, reader, for postcard # 657 of Glittery Downtown Las Ve- gas. I'm glad to know that Sweets Col- umn has more fans, and yes you said sunny, warm Las Vegas, and we hope to have that weather soon. I like that smiley face. The Winslow Patoka River is high but not overflowing as of yet. We had some storms come through the area, but the tornadoes were south in Ken- tucky, part of southern Indiana and east of Pike Co. These storms came in on March 14 with March winds to start off, but after the storms, the winds were still heavy. I loved those 70 de- gree temps on Wednesday and Thurs- day, and hope they come back again. It was really nice to go outside and not bundle up in winter wear. Do you think the 30 degree temps will ever leave and let the spring temps take over? Well, spring is on March 20, so we can only hope the weather stays nice. The daffodils are either still grow- ing, have buds and some are in bloom. The trees are full of buds and the clumps of grass in the yards are turning dark green. Last Sunday, March 10, as we were about to leave the neighborhood, we saw the cutest two little ducks waddling across Brenton on 1st Street. We had to stop and let them pass. I have no idea where they came from, but I guess they liked our area of Winslow. Did you all wear green on St. Pat- rick's Day? I hope so, and did you go to the Ireland St. Patrick's celebration? They had three days of painting the streets green. The sirens were supposed to go off on March 19 for Indiana to prepare for the Weather Awareness Week that runs March 17-22, and since Press Dis- patch comes out on Wednesday, and I just found out about it, I hope you all know where to go in a disaster. In Winslow, you should go to the Com- munity Center. March 13 was when I turned 71 years, and that day after, Norm made me a cake and spread out icing and dec- oration. He makes a fluffy, moist cake. Then the oven was used to make a roast with potatoes and onions, and it fell apart, which was a good thing. Those there to eat were Terri Ann, Ted, Laura, Mom, Norm and me. We also had ice cream, cards and presents. I also got two cards in the mail from Diane Fick- el and Eula Miller. I did have a great birthday and a great day with a 70 de- gree temp. I also got a phone call with a birthday song sung from a few friends. I thank all who had a part in wishing me a great 71 years. Oh and CVS was the first to say Happy Birthday. Mom left last Saturday, March 16 to go back to Illinois. It was good to have her visit and see some relatives. She says Hi to all the stars in the area that remember her. I guess you're all tired of all my ram- blings, so the lights are about to dim. Keep an eye on family and friends; slow down and see all the wonders in your neck of the woods. Be kind to one another. Always smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
