Production team for new Gil Hodges documentary scheduled to film in Petersburg on March 28 A film crew for a new film documentary on the life of Gil Hodges, native son of Petersburg, is scheduled to arrive in his hometown on Thursday, March 28 to film at various locations in and around Petersburg. The goal of the film is to help educate and inform sports enthusiasts of one of baseball's greatest play- ers of the 1950s, who went on to manage the Washing- ton Senators and New York Mets, before his untimely death in 1972 at the age of 47. As manager, he led the "Mir- acle Mets" to a World Series championship in 1969. The film will also focus on Hodg- es' life off the field as one of the finest gentlemen to ever play the game of baseball – a man of great faith, integri- ty and patriotism. Kevin O'Malley, one of the film's creators and ex- ecutive producers, has been working with Randy Har- ris, former city mayor and local businessperson, to ar- range for the filming in Pe- tersburg. Any local citizens interested in being inter- viewed for the film can meet Harris and the film crew on March 28 at Cakes and Cof- fee Café on Main Street at 2 p.m. Interviews for the film be- gan in December 2018 and include former teammates and players who played ei- ther with or for him both in Washington and New York. In addition, family inter- views have been filmed and several Dodgers-related in- terviews are scheduled in the next few months with Vin Scully (former broad- caster), Peter O'Malley (for- mer owner) and Larry King (celebrity). "We are very excited to have our film crew come out to Petersburg on March 28 to capture the various images surrounding Hodg- es' childhood and, of course, the famous mural," O'Mal- ley said. "We would also love those in th e local communi- ty, with either a direct or in- direct connection to Gil, to come out and share their sto- ries for the film." O'Malley added, "It is the hope of everyone associated with making this film to con- vince the Hall of Fame com- mittee, scheduled to vote on Hodges' induction in De- cember 2020, that Gil Hodg- es does indeed meet all of the requirements as a player both on and off the field for induction in Cooperstown." The film, which is expect- ed to be released initially in late 2019 as a short online documentary, is under the direction and production of David Naglieri, an Emmy Award winning documenta- ry filmmaker and television producer.
