C-2 Church Wednesday, March 20, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Bible study, Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the church. In more than 150 places in the four Gospels does Je- sus speak of God as "Father," "My Father," "Our Father," "Thy Father," "Your Father," "The Father," "Holy Father," "Heavenly Father," "Righ- teous Father." "Father" was Jesus' favored name for God. What a meaning it gives to our idea of God—(Halley's Bible Hand Book). Dennis and Lisa Patton, Pastors Continued from page 1 CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY "A dog: companion, friend, protector, playmate and life changer. Dogs add a dimension to our lives that otherwise would be just a vacant spot. They work for us, guard us, play with us, entertain us, love us, keep us company and change our lives"—H. Nor- man Wright. This week, PAWS is fea- turing an outgoing young fellow named Grizzly, who doesn't know a stranger and wants to gain the af- fection and attention of anyone in his path. He has all the great qualities of the Labrador Retriever, a ro- bust personality to match, loves to play fetch, and just seeing a ball or Frisbee makes this fellow's heart sing. Grizzly has thick, shiny black fur, warm brown eyes, is approximately two years old, has all his shots, is neutered and can be ad- opted by calling 812-354- 9894. We are continuing our study on Revelation on Sun- day evening. You are wel- come to join us at any of our services. Jesus said, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20, NRSV ). Mustard seed faith is faith that acknowledges our ab- solute dependence on God. When we act on what we be- lieve, when we humble our- selves before God, we find strength in God's mighty power to be a healing pres- ence in the world. Remember those who are in need of prayer, who are battling illnesses and those who need the peace that on- ly God can give. We invite you to worship with us, at any of our ser- vices. When Jesus Christ was on the Cross, His blood drain- ing the life from His body, He knew what it was like to be alone and wracked with pain. But Jesus' pain was far more than just physical pain, for He was suffering God's judgment on all the sins of the ages, the great- est darkness the soul ev- er knew. As the divine Son of God, He was perfect and without sin. But all our sins were placed on Him, and He took the judgment and Hell we alone deserve. He died in our place. Why did Jesus suffer? For you and for me, that we might have eternal life and have His peace in the midsts of life's storms. That we might know that He under- stands our pain and suffer- ing and stands ready to help. Why did Jesus suffer? Be- cause God loves us. Because God loves you, and Christ willingly went to the Cross NEW LIBERTY G.B. CHURCH (Coe) 1820 S. Co Rd. 800 S. We en- joyed a beautiful Sunday morning, our visitors and our regulars being in church with us. We had a great spe- cial by Allie and Beth, fol- lowed by an inspiring ser- mon from Gary. Using this save meant if you were stuck on a question or if you wanted someone else's input, you could "call" them and ask. Often, I find, in life, we want to use this feature. When life comes at us with all it has we often find our- selves needing to make big decisions quickly. Or we find ourselves in tempting situa- tions and don't know what to do. If only we could phone a friend in the middle of that situation. What I've learned though in life is that the best way to get through, stay strong, and keep my integrity with my goals and resolutions, is to have community. It's using phone a friend before I need it. That way in the midst of the hardest choices when I can't make that phone call I know what a friend would tell me. Prayer is similar, the more we pray, the more we seek God's guidance be- fore the waves start rising around us, the more con- fidence we have in God's VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. "The church is you who pray, not where you pray. A structure of brick or mar- ble can no more be a church than your clothes of serge or satin can be you." "There is in the world nothing sacred but man, no sanctuary of God but the soul." Peter said, "As you come to him, the living stone, re- jected by men but chosen by God and precious to him, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritu- al house to be a holy priest- hood, offering spiritual sac- rifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (I Pe- ter 2:4-5). "He who pampers his slave from childhood will find him to be a son in the end" (Prov- erbs 29:21). Jesus pampered us by tak- ing our place on the cross and making us His children. This helps us want to serve Him and be loyal to Him. Giving sacrificial love to others brings sacrificial love back. What are we willing to sacrifice for Jesus and oth- ers? "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" (Psalm 119:11). When I am tired, the Bi- ble is my bed. Or in the dark, the Bible is my light; When I am hungry, it is vital bread; Or fearful, it is armor for the fight. When I am sick, 'tis healing medicine; Or lone- ly, thronging friends I find therein. If I would work, the Bible is my tool; Or play, it is a harp of happy sound. If I am ignorant, it is my school. If I am sinking, it is solid ground. If I am cold, the Bible is my fire; And wings, if boldly I as- pire. Should I be lost, the Bi- ble is my guide; Or naked, it is raiment, rich and warm. Am I imprisoned? It ranges wide; Or tempest-tossed, a shelter from the storm. Chad Searls, Pastor
