VFD extinguishes chimney fire Sunday The Jefferson Township Fire Department was able to extinguish a chimney fire about 8 a.m. Sunday. Firemen went to Je- rome Meyer's residence at 1950 N. CR 500 E. for a chimney fire. Jefferson Fire Chief Chris Young said Meyer had it under control and they were able to put it out quickly. "A chimney fire can get out of hand if you don't get on it," said Young. He said the big swings in temperature we have been having and real cold wind "are a rec- ipe for clogging up chim- neys." Young recommended people with wood burn- ers have their chimney checked and cleaned.
