Poplar Street, Petersburg NEWS BRIEFS Pruning workshop set for March 2 On Saturday, March 2 at 9 a.m. CST at Hartman Arboretum, there will be a hands-on training about pruning blueberries, blackberries and red raspber- ries, as well as a demonstration on pruning shade trees. Shawn Dickerson, Arborist for the City of Evansville, and Grant Hartman, Master Gardener, are teaming up to provide this free, two-hour educational program for the public. Hartman Arboretum is located northwest of Evans- ville at 5939 Spirit Trail. It is one half mile north of State Road 66 (Diamond Ave) at Hwy. 65 (Cynthiana Road) near the German Township Booster Club. Purdue Extension schedules second Winter Education Series for March 4 The second educational session is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST at the Pike County Courthouse Building, Monday, March 4. There is no charge for this ses- sion. It's open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Topic will be Invasive Landscaping and Native Al- ternatives by Megan Ritterskamp, Invasive Species Technician, Cooperative Invasive Management Area. Center March 5 Due to the large number of women being detected with breast cancer, the St. Vincent Center, St. Vincent Hope Resources will be providing mammograms on Tuesday, March 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Winslow Community Center. The mammograms are provided free to those on lim- ited income or without insurance. If you have insur- ance, you need to provide an insurance card for bill- ing. To be eligible, it must have been at least one year since your last mammogram. Appointments are recommended by calling Hope Resource Center, toll free at 877-580 -3883 or 812-485 - 4437. Walk-ins are accepted time permitting, appoint- ments have first priority. Maintain various files, records, and prepare/ submit statistical and narrative reports as required. Maintains current knowl- edge of applicable local, State, and Federal rules/regulations. Performs duties of Probation Officers as set forth in Indiana Code 11-13-1-3. Work with both adult and juvenile probationers. Be on call twenty-four (24) hours to assist po- lice agencies. The Pike County Foun- dation also donated to the project. The Bearded Beach Bums take off at the start of the Polar Plunge on Saturday. They were one of ma- ny colorful groups to participate. In all they raised more than $54,000 for Indiana Special Olympics. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Jason McKinney runs out of the wa- ter with a large group of area police officers who took the plunge on Saturday. Thomas Sparks runs out of the water in a pink tutu. His fellows Amber Manor employees raised $100 to get him to wear the tutu. Mary Beldenand Mark Norris with ResCare, of Blooming- ton, give each other a high five as they run out of the water. Former Pike Central heavyweight wrestler and football player Silas Goff takes deep, deep breath as he emerges from the water Saturday.
