May all our stars have a great day and may all your wishes come true. Keep in your heart and in your prayers all our stars who need that card, visit, phone call, and that dai- ly thought of them to have a bright- er day. Arvle Wade now lives in one of the Petersburg Apartments; Phil- lip Meyer had rotor cup surgery on his right arm, and as soon as the pain eases he will feel a lot better. We all know may stars in our areas; lots of stars are trying to get over the virus that lingers around, then the many stars that have the aches and pains of everyday life. I was advised by Laura that I had omitted the upcoming events and I'm truly sorry for that. Last week's writ- ings had me a bit distracted with the passing of Mike Meyer, my cousin, and Junior McDonald, our neighbor, and my mind couldn't think of what came next in the column. So, here are the events coming up in Winslow and the surrounding areas. January 21 – Martin Luther King Jr Day. February 2 – Groundhog Day. February 3 – Superbowl Sunday. February 5 – Winslow Zoning Board meets at 6 p.m. at the Winslow Fire Station. Winslow Seniors meet on Monday and Tuesdays at the Community Center. Postcards this week at Sweets Column Winslow, IN 47598 were none in the ol' mailbox. Winslow Patoka River was down a bit from the rim, but with the rain, sleet, and snow to come over the weekend, it should rise and maybe overflow. We were expected to get 3- 5 inches of snow on top of 1-2 inches of rain, and then the sleet and wind gusts of 40 -45 mph to maybe make some drifts. Monday last week was the 1st Town Board meeting with our new council persons and also, history was made in our town this year with the first woman, Debra Lamb, council person. Josh Popp became this year's presi- dent and even though it ran for three hours, I believe it was a productive and informational meeting for all the room full of citizens. I am hoping to see, again next month, Feb 11, more of our citizens come out and take a part in your town of Winslow. Norm and I went out to our wood guy to bring in another truck load of wood, and while we were loading up we talked to our wood guy and no- ticed he had his hand bandaged up. He said the wood was low because his doctor said he was not to do any mill- ing with that hand for a few weeks. We hope all is well with his hand, and we hope there is more wood to load up in the weeks ahead. The yard was slightly muddy as the wood was un- loaded into the wheelbarrow, 18 trips. The Winslow Lions Club met and had our meal of soup beans and ham made by Lucy, and sausage, crackers, onions, and the cornbread I brought, which didn't rise, so I guess my bank- ing powder had lost its rising pow- er. It was good, though soaking up that tasty juice of the beans. Thursday was the Winslow Blood Drive, and we heard from Deb- ra that she gave some blood and then soon afterwards she faint- ed. She was okay when she made it to the Lions' meeting. I hope they had a good turn- out. Laura had a great time as she en- joyed the Christian Music Groups at the Ford Center in Evansville. She also got to shake hands with every member in one of the bands. She was able to work at the merchandise ta- ble for MANICDRIVE and was able to meet the band afterwards. She had a great time and didn't get back until early Friday morning. With the freezing and thawing of our roads, there are some holes that have become bigger pot holes and some are in our towns. If you travel on Highway 64 in Princeton west of the square, you may encounter sever- al along that stretch of road. In our Brownstown part of Winslow, there are new neighbors, and soon there will be another neigh- bor to move in. To the stars that have already became a part of our town, Welcome. As the lights begin to dim on this week's ramblings, I hope you all have had a great beginning to this New Year of 2019 and that it continues to be the best year. Keep an eye on fami- ly and friends and do what you can do, even if it's only listening. Slow down and see all the beauty, even if it takes you a little bit out of your way. Have you been kind, helpful, or said kind words to someone this week? Well, what are you waiting for? Then as I always say, smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week. FEATURE OF THE WEEK!
