A fter getting his degree in education from the Uni- versity of Southern Indi- ana, George moved around, teaching at many different schools, including North Posey, Bedford, where he went to high school, and Seymour. In May of 2018, George was hired at Wood Memo- rial to teach English and coach basketball. This is his first time us- ing the English portion of his education degree. "It was a need that they had here, and I had it on my license." Along with Language Arts, he is teaching Ety- mology, and Film and Lit- erature. When it comes to teach- ing kids who do not enjoy writing, George said, "To in- terest them, really in writ- ing or anything, you have to kind of limit your restric- tions. I guess what I mean by that is, kind of allow them to write about what- ever they enjoy....as far as subject matter goes, try to leave that a little open end- ed. They like to feel a little bit of responsibility, a lit- tle bit of ownership of what they write." As a teacher and coach, George strives to make himself approachable to his students. He thinks it is very important to try to re- late to his students off of the basketball court or outside of the English classroom as well. When it comes to coach- ing basketball at Wood Me- morial High School, he said, "I couldn't be happier with where we are right now." He added that he is really excit- ed to work with the group of seniors that he has. "They're hungry. I think they felt a little let down with themselves, maybe, you know going into the summer. From day one, I couldn't ask for harder workers...I think they're well on their way, " added George. Dustin George WOOD MEMORIAL BLOOD DRIVE BARTON TOWNSHIP GRANDPARENT'S DAY
