FRIDAY MATCHES OCTOBER 19 Lady Charger netters end season with sectional loss to Sullivan Seniors Alyssa Jenkins and Taylor Lamey had a team-high five kills each as the Pike Central High School volleyball team ended its sea- son with a 25 -11, 25 -14, 25 - 16 loss to visiting Sullivan in the semifinals of the section- al tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13. Jenkins also had one block to lead the Lady Chargers in scoring with six points. Senior Becca Crow added four kills while dishing out a team-high 11 set-assists. She also led Pike Central in digs with eight. In addition, senior Kylee Shoultz had a team-high three ace serves. Junior Au- drey Keepes had one ace serve and one kill to go along with seven digs. Senior Ky- lie Dawson added two kills while junior Karsyn Pipes had one. Sophomore Kaila Lamey had six digs while Kylie Daw- son, Lamey, Shoultz and se- nior Kenzie Dunn had five each. With the loss, Pike Central ended the season 11-19. Vincennes Lincoln, which defeated Princeton 25 -18,19 - 25, 25 -22, 25 -18 in a first- round contest on Thursday, Oct. 11, and Washington 25 -21, 22-25, 25 -5, 27-25 in a semifinal match on Satur- day, Oct. 13, defeated Sulli- van 23-25, 25 -19, 25 -22, 25 -14 in the championship match. Submitted photo By James Capozella Well over 100 youngsters turned out on a chilly Sat- urday morning for a day in the outdoors for the Pike County Bird Hunters Club 13th Annual Youth Day. The youngsters were re- warded with a day of darts, archery, BB gun shooting, 22 rifle shooting, muzzle loading, trap shooting and hunting over dogs. A fter a few hours of activ- ity with instruction and as- sistance by club volunteers at the various ranges, and an exhibition by the Wash- ington Police department and their dogs grabbed the kids' attention. A ran- dom drawing for six Rem- ington 1187 shotguns, plus two 870 shotguns, two Ru- ger 22 rifles, two youth compound bows, a Bear Apprentice compound bow and a Centerpoint XR175 crossbow made the day for 14 big prize winners. Everyone in attendance picked out their favorite ac- tivity, and also had a great breakfast and lunch cour- tesy of the Bird Hunters Club. Ten long guns and sev- eral archery sets, plus ma- ny smaller prizes, went to excited kids who will now be able to enjoy the out- door activities even more. Each winner listened close- ly as Bird Hunter President Chris Kinman cautioned A day outdoors at the PCBHC 13th Annual Youth Day them about the responsi- bility and safety involved in shooting sports. More than $4,000 worth of prizes were given away in the ran- dom drawing made possi- ble by the NR A, IPL Sports, VFW, Moose and many oth- er businesses, groups and individuals. Registration was han- dled by Donna Watkins, Carrie Jean Dillon Darlene Robinson and Kay Gowin. Other workers were Ron Hawkins, Chris Kinman, Beau Dillon, Jim Capozella, Bill Gowin, Norm Dillon, Randy Beck, Jack Hamm, Ralph Lacer, Ray Motz, Gary Welch, Dustin Smith, Sara Hopkins, Keith Thom- as, Andy Fruit, Chris La- mar, Tim Blaize, Bob Me- dario, Jeff Barton, Ralph Whann, Mark Shaefer, Dan Ellerman and Grant Lamar.
