The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 5, 2018 C-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg "I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been com- mended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be noth- ing" (II Cor. 12:11). The Apostle Paul did not like to "glory" or boast about his apostleship. He would much rather spend his time teaching the great truths of the Mystery, and the Word of God, rightly divided. However, the imma- turity of the Corinthians "compelled" him to such boasting. They were so impressed with the boasting of the "false apostles" (11:13) that Paul was forced to speak to them in the only language they seemed to understand— that of boasting. Grace believers are often accused of boasting too much about the apostleship of Paul, and to this we plead guilty. We too would much rather spend our time teaching the great truths of the Word of God, rightly divided. However, the sorry state of modern Christianity is such that we too are "com- pelled" to boast about Paul's apostleship. The immaturity of contemporary Christi- anity has caused them to overlook Paul as "the apostle of the Gentiles" (Rom. 11:13), and presents us with a compelling reason to emphasize his apostleship. Paul found the Corinthian situation espe- cially disappointing, since as he told them, "I ought to have been commended of you." As the one who had begotten them in the gospel (I Cor. 4:15), they should have been singing the praises of his apostleship, in- stead of forcing him to defend it. And so it is today. All who are saved in the dispensa- tion of Grace are saved by grace through faith apart from works (Eph. 2:8,9), a gospel that is exclusive to the Apostle Paul. And so in a very real sense, all who are saved today In the Ramblings last week I left a para- graph with an open thought so people could think if they are really doing what is expect- ed of them or are they waiting for others to lead the way. Folks, all I want from others is to do what it takes for our country to re- main strong and free, no more no less. So if my words caused you to rethink how you might see the thoughts of others, great, if not I have tried. Last Wednesday the wife and I went with our son and daughter-in-law to "Jumpin Jax" to watch our grandson celebrate his third birthday. When you go into the building amazement takes over. There is so much to do in a relative small area of space in com- parison with the amount of entertainment. We are in the process of replacing the wooden floor in our utility trailer. It has been a tremendous chore to remove the old floor because all the retaining hardware was rust- ed so bad that most of them broke. Hopeful- ly going back together will be easy. Our Sunday school lesson took us back to the beginning of things when created the Earth. Whenever I think about the awesome power to speak something into existence it makes me wonder how anyone can think we just happened to come into existence. Believ- ing in God must be an act of faith and accept- ing some of the mysteries of our creation. They be- lieve that circumstances determine right or wrong. These people have trouble believing the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. Because man cannot understand every- thing, it does not lessen the all knowing power and wisdom of God. Most people be- lieve where there is a design there is a de- signer. While we struggle with many of the mysteries of the universe, let's not forget God who designed it and has total control. Even science cannot supply the final link in the chain of how we came to be and why we are here. I could leave the final link to chance or I can ascribe some role to a Su- preme Being. It is much easier to look at our universe and human beings and believe in God rather than in chance. This universe is too great and won- derful to exist with- out the hand of God. In America, sur- veys show that about 91% of the people be- lieve in a Supreme Being. Three out of four adults in Amer- ica describe them- selves as Christians. This being true, why should we let a tiny group of atheists and agnostics define our values and get most of the elite liberal media's attention. There are scientists who believe in God and those who don't. Should our educational system be influenced by one or two skeptics or by the 91% who believe in a Supreme Being?
