C-2 Church Wednesday, August 22, 2018 The Press-Dispatch Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 1 No matter how big they get, they still know they're your baby. This week, PAWS is featuring a gentle giant named Brutus, who was surrendered by a for- mer owner who had to move and could not take Brutus with him. He has been quite depressed, and as you can imagine, feels deserted. Brutus, a handsome fel- low, appears to have some Spanish Mastiff heritage/ and possibly German Shepherd. Mastiffs are generally utterly devoted to their owners and this is likely why Brutus is so forlorn. He has a wolf-col- ored, smoky gray face, is approximately two years old and needs a new lov- ing owner to bond with and call his own. He is neutered, has his vacci- nations, is on heartworm prevention, is housebro- ken, and would make a stoic and loyal companion. To adopt Brutus, call 812-354-9894. Teaching in Wisdom "Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding." (Proverbs 3:13, NIV ). Think for a moment about what a blessing ac- tually is. The most popu- lar answer is that we are blessed every day because we are alive and saved in Christ Jesus. This is a won- derful answer and so very true. But how many times are we on our road of life and we hit a rough patch that brings us down, and we cry out to God "help and bless me? " The thing is, how do you know that the rough patch you are go- ing through is not a bless- ing or a teaching moment, for that matter, in wisdom? God could be preparing you to help someone else on their path, and by you going through the same situation, you will have the ability to bless them and show understanding. Starting September 10, at 10 a.m., a six-week Bible study on second Thessalo- nians will begin in Campbell- town at the Women' s Minis- try Center. "Am I a soldier of the cross—a follower of the Lamb, and shall I fear to own His cause, or blush to speak His name? " And so, the appeal is made in the first verse of this hymn. Are we soldiers? Jesus likens the Christian walk to that of a solider. As soldiers, we will be proud to pledge our alle- giance to the One we serve. We will want to identify with His battalion. We certain- ly will not want to blend in with the enemy. "Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while others fought to win the prize, and sailed through bloody seas? " Soldiers start out in boot camp learning how to "rough it." They realize that the task they are engaging in is not a pretty one. Just a brief look at church history will la- bel us all as wimps. All but one of the disciples remain- ing after Calvary were mar- tyred for Jesus' sake. Early Christians worshiped in the catacombs (Roman tombs) for safety. Men who tried to make the Bible available to the general public were tor- tured to death. And, if they should have to pay so dear a price to make heaven their home, what do our flimsy excuses sound like to God when we have such freedom of worship? Too tried? Too busy? Too many hypocrites? Too many aches and pains? Ouch! To be continued. Chad Searls, Pastor Independent God, like any good fa- ther, has many ways of teaching and guiding his children. In the verse this week, that is more than ev- ident. Blessings are some- times a learning experi- ence that he guides you through so that you may guide others, and show them him through your understanding and com- passion. Keep faith and re- member that even though life gets rough, God is al- ways at your side. Laura Story says it best in her song "Blessings." "'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops. What if Your healing comes through tears. And what if a thou- sand sleepless nights, are what it takes to know You're near. What if my greatest disappointments or the achings of this life is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satis- fy. And what if trials of this life, the rain, the storms, the hardest nights, are Your mercies in disguise." God bless you and keep you. See our Facebook page Glezen Revival Center.
