Generations is a program of Vincennes University's Community Services Divi- sion. Scout registration set for August 28 On August 28, boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grades (ag- es 5 -11) can join Cub Scout packs by going to the Win- slow or Petersburg Elemen- tary schools from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. to register. "Now is the best time to register and start your year in Scouting," said John Hard- ing, Buffalo Trace Council Scout Executive. "Cub Scout- ing, like other Scouting pro- grams, has a proven track re- cord of providing strong lead- ership skills, encouraging a higher standard of academ- ic achievement, and creating stronger ties to the commu- nity for its members." The goal of the member- ship campaign and registra- tion event is to bring Cub Scouts to as many youth as possible, in a familiar and convenient way. Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost and most widely- recognized program of lead- ership, personal develop- ment and growth. The orga- nization is making a histori- cal change this year, opening Cub Scouting up to both boys and girls. Scouts BSA pro- gramming for girls ages 11- 17 will begin next year. "Scouting complements other extracurricular activ- ities because it helps kids be at their best in every way," said Harding. "Scouting is also affordable. Joining fees vary by location, but are rel- atively low compared to oth- er activities, and financial as- sistance is available." The Boy Scouts of Amer- ica offers adventure oppor- tunities for all age groups. Cub Scouts is for boys and girls who are in kindergarten through fifth grade. In Feb- ruary 2019, the program cur- rently known as Boy Scouts will become Scouts BSA, welcoming girls to work to- wards the renowned Eagle Scout rank. This program invites boys, and soon girls, age 11-18. Venturing, which has included girls since the early 90's, is a co-ed program for young men and women ages 14-20.
